Re: Spartite Mast Wedge Kit/Large - $100

After a veritable waterfall recently into my cabin from the mast, resealing the boot has moved up in priority on the To Do list. I'm interested in this kit, but have never done this before. Why didn't you use it on your Freedom?

Re: Spartite Mast Wedge Kit/Large - $100

Spartite is an excellent product, but it is designed for stayed rigs, with a Shore A hardness of 55-60.

When we restepped our freestanding masts, we used an industrial product which is mixed and poured the same way, but has a Shore A hardness of 90.

Re: Spartite Mast Wedge Kit/Large - $100

This stuff works very, very, well. Two things...DO NOT get this on your deck. It is EXTREMLY difficult to remove. And, you want to ensure that the spar and boat are well lubed with the vaseline, or you will not be able to remove the stick. Follow the instructions to the letter, and you will not have any difficulty. This stuff is great and will solve any leaks you have at the mast. The spar tite creates a blue rubber collar around the mast that is created with the masking tape dam. Great stuff....just need to take your time and lube the mast/boat very, very, well.

Re: Spartite Mast Wedge Kit/Large - $100

Is this product intended only for a boat that keeps the mast up year round?
I like the idea of a well supported mast, but being up north we take the mast down each winter. Will the Spartite survive in my circumstances ?

Re: Spartite Mast Wedge Kit/Large - $100

Good question.....I have removed the mast once, and it went back in OK. I would suggest you contact SparTite directly and pose your question. I do not know what the longevity of the gasket would be with the constant removal. It may not pay over time to use this product if you only get a few years out of it. For my purpose, it works very, very, well.

I'm going to have to search some old receipts to find that information -- when I do, I'll let you know!

I have as partite gasket on my Tartan37 that has lasted 10 years with the mast being removed 3 times. Still no leaks

Is the kit still available? If so, I'll take it.

The Spartite site indicates a rating of Shore D, not Shore A. On other sites that depict scale measurements, Shore D of 55-60 appears to similar hardness type of Shore A 90-100.
