Small Dinghy Outboard

Live in Maryland. Looking for a small, light weight outboard for my dingy.

Thanks!

How big is the dink? Brand?
Do you expect to plane off?
What is the dink rated for?

Weight appears to be your concern (Mine also)
My little 3.5 Tahatsu 4 stroke (AKA Mercury, Nissan) pushes us along on an 8 ft rigid bottom. No speedster by gets us to thge dock. If I were needing to go a mile or more or diving I would have a larger setup. Lets hear the stats and we can give some advice ...for what it is worth!

Hey, thanks! It's an 8 foot semi-rigid (inflatable) that mostly hangs on its davits. Mostly used to go from hook to shore, with an occasional foray across the Potomac River. Can't imagine I'd need more than 5 hp, and could probably get by with 2.5. Weight is definitely a prime consideration--considering 2 stroke for that very reason. Not sure what it's rating is....

I use a Honda BP2 four stroke on my 8 foot Portaboat. It came with the boat when I bought it so I've used it over 15 years now. Has worked very well for my needs. If it ever dies I probably will go electric with something like the Torqeedo Travel 1003 as a replacement.

I have been thinking about selling my Honda 2hp 4stroke that's only a few years old. It's only 27lbs and is air cooled, so no need to worry about impellers. My dingy will take up to 5hp and I think I want to upgrade....

Let me know if this is what you are looking for.

Love my 1968 Evinrude Mate. 9#, 1.5 HP. Starts first pull every time. Simple to service. Ugly and old looking that no one would steal it at the dinghy dock!

Sounds like you do not need much. The 2 hp Honda is air cooled and easy to maintain. I like 4 strokes. run a 2 stroke in a bucket for a while and you would see why. A 2.5 or 3.5 would do. Under 40 lb.
