The windlass works well. I used it with 5/16 BBB, but according to the manual it accepts 1/4 and 5/16 proof, 5/16 and 3/8 BBB, and 5/16 and 3/8 Hi Test chain. It can also be used with rope/chain rodes. Ideal rope diameter is 5/8" but it will accept diameters that are plus or minus 1/8". We are within striking distance of Port Townsend. We are in Ellensburg and can arrange to meet.

Hi I am interested in your windlass sl 510. Can you confirm for me spacing of the mounting holes (centre to centre)? I bought a sailboat recently that I believe had this model but the windlass was removed. I wish to use the existing mounting holes. I live in Victoria so it would not be too dificult to ship it or I may even pick it up. Cheers, Ivan.

Center to center - 8 1/4" x 3 3/4". We can work out delivery.

Hi Rob. Reni is my boat partner. I was sure it was the 510 we needed but the holes don't match up. The holes on our boat are 5" x 9.5" centre of hole to centre of hole. Maybe it is the 555 that I need. Does anyone have the footprint measurments for the 555? Rob, do you have a picture you could send me of your 510? You can send it directly to ivanhoe@islandnet.com .
