Sailboat & Cabin

Want to live the dream life? Here it is. Rent our rustic artist’s/writer’s cabin in SW Virginia by the year, live in it during late fall and winter then live aboard &/or cruise the east coast on the 41’ 1987 41’ Morgan Classic CC sloop Angel Lee in the late spring through early fall. I’m the third owner and have spent the last 14 years outfitting her for extended cruising. Amenities include: Two private cabins (1 fore & 1 aft w/ separate heads, a large salon with new Pleather cushions, a galley w/ a 2 burner propane stove & oven, 12V and 110V plus engine drive refrigeration systems. There is a 16K AC in the main salon and a 5K AC in the aft cabin and a rebuilt 5KW generator to run them. A 42 HP Yanmar diesel auxiliary motor, 11’ Cat dingy on davits w/ a 25 HP outboard. Newer sails, running and standing rigging. RayMarine E80 chart plotter with integrated radar. There is also extensive compliment of safety equipment including a life raft, fully equipped ditch bag w/ hand held VHF, 406MHZ EPIRB and water maker. A RayMarine MOB system, 2 personal EPIRBs, an EPERIB for the boat, Life Sling, MOB pole. Ground tackle includes a 73# Rocna anchor w/ 280’ 5/16 HT anchor chain, a 35# Bruce, FX55 & FX23 Fortress anchors w/ 300’ of secondary anchor rode, Tigress electric/manual windlass (coming this spring)…etc. I have a recent survey for you inspection.

Cabin is set on 2.5 secluded acres 1 mile up a private dead end lane and is located in Franklin Co, VA on the Crooked Road Music Heritage trail and 5 miles outside the small college town of Ferrum, VA. Only 8 miles to the Blue Ridge parkway, 15 miles to Rocky Mount, 20 miles from the artsy town of Floyd, and just 35 miles from Roanoke and a full service airport.
Cabin comes partly or fully finished. It is very cozy and decorated w/antiques. Two bedrooms upstairs A full bath (shower), living room, dining area, kitchen w/ center island breakfast bar is downstairs. A huge rock fireplace with gas logs in the living room as well as another rock fireplace in the kitchen and a wood burning stove for heat. AC up stairs and down (you won’t need it). A huge hot tub on the covered back porch. Utilities (power, phone, cable, and internet) are included (water is from a new well). There is also secure on-site storage for your belongings while your cruising during the summer. Winters here are mild but, you do get an occasional snow which is beautiful. Wildlife abounds: Dear, turkey, beaver, the occasional bear, hawks, owls, whippoorwills and much more. Three black walnut trees shade the cabin. There are also two pear trees, a chestnut and a pecan tree. Wild Muscatine grapes, an herb garden, a fenced vegetable garden and flower beds surrounding the cabin. Natural springs feed small creeks on three sides of the property.
Very peaceful, private and beautiful. When John Denver wrote about West Virginia it was only because he hadn’t been here.

The deal: You stay in the cabin from around Nov. 1 until around May 1 then move aboard the boat until around Nov. 1 then we trade. Cruising grounds would be from Florida to Maine. The price will include insurance, major maintenance costs for the boat and cabin and a generous utility allowance for the cabin. You will be responsible for any slip, mooring and/or storage costs of the boat during your allotted time aboard. You must be experienced, mechanically inclined and willing to put forth the effort to maintain what you are using. We are looking for the right person/couple to share our two greatest passions on a long term basis so in addition to a reasonable deposit, credit and background checks you’ll have to pass the wife’s vibe test (easy to do if you are honest and genuine. I did).

Please contact me for addtinal pics, survey, and additional info.
