Please Fulfill My Dreams With A Cape Dory 26D!

Hi, I have been looking for a Cape Dory 26D FOREVER! I've wanted one since I ever saw a boat. It would be my first, and I plan to blog and take it across oceans. [NOMN's Blog] - Maybe you know the feeling, I spent countless nights on yachtworld trying to find a decent ride I loved, and all in all, I kept coming back to that Cape Dory 26D. I must've saw nearly 8000 boats!! If you have one just sitting in your slip, racking up your bills and restricting freedom, I would LOVE it if you could send her to a good owner!

I would cry it would make me so happy.

Re: Please Fulfill My Dreams With A Cape Dory 26D!

I thought all the 26s had the outboardin well? surely the 25D is much more common than a 26D which I've never seen. Used to be a member of the Cape Dory Association.

why not buy a cheap 27 or the 28 is a much better boat. Plenat around here in Florida for around 10K

Re: Please Fulfill My Dreams With A Cape Dory 26D!

Hi - thanks. I'm super obsessed with the 26D for some reason. I think the 25D V-Berth removal with a head is, rather not to my liking. 30'+ Is a no-no for me, (for coast and practicality reasons. I'm living the trailerable pocket cruiser dream.)

Is the 27/28 really a better boat? How come??? I know the 26D was manufactured in '87, it's my growing suspicion that the fiberglass might be thinner, but that could be something Cape Dory never did (to shave costs??) That was my worry.

Anyway, yes, I'm still obsessed with a 26D. It just feels right. Anything over 28 seems too big and I LOVE tillers. lol.

Well good luck, I think the 28 and 33 are the best Cape Dorys. I personally would get yourself something like an S2 8.0 or 8.5. much better boats overall. There was a 8.0 in Ft Myers last month for around $3500 with a newer diesel engine.

Re: Please Fulfill My Dreams With A Cape Dory 26D!

Why not look for another of the Alberg style boats? There are a bunch out there in your size/price range- the Ariel, Triton, the Alberg 30, etc. Would be older, but that doesn't mean worse, either, in all situations.
Seems the 26 is a rare bird..we have 25's all over the place up here, (and lots of the others as well), but not sure I have ever seen a 26D either.

Well, there is no such thing as Cape Dory 26D, according to Cape Dory association site
CDSOA, Inc. -- About Cape Dorys
There were 78 Cape Dory 26 built, but they have an outboard in well.

No wonder he can't find it, it dosen't exsist.

I remember when I was a kid. A 26 ft boat seemed huge. Now, unless I wanted to be single all of my life, I would certainly give up the pocket cruiser dream.

I probably shouldn't be that harsh. There is a possibility that out of 78 total, a few boats were custom made with inboard...

A CD36 went for IRS tax auction in RI just the other month. Starting bid only 3k. Have been meaning to call the agent to see what the final bid was out of curiousity.

Several years ago when I thought it was the boat for me, they were fetching 80k for one in decent shape.

Just need to watch the earliest couple dozen hull numbers had inferior chainplates, until they made the switch and fix with a new vendor. Ok. I have heisted the poor kid's thread enough.

If the OP wants he can buy my Typhoon Weekender and progress up the chain to the 26D.
