A little high for a reman engine don't you think. You can pick them up for $4500 online

Re: Perkins 4-108m remanufactured bobtail

This is a nice motor. If you have a motor like this one and it needs replaced don't fall into the mistake of changing everything to make room for a different kind of engine. They don't make the 4-108m anymore but if you have a suitable core you can rebuild one if you don't need all of the stuff thats 30 years old that will have to go back on it. I know that 9 seems high but go to TAD and see what they want. You can get the 4-108 BUT not the 4-108m.
rebuild number is ed70058. I notice you didn't post a link where these 4500 dll motors were to be had so I am sure you jest. So if you need to get moving and you are out of the country I will cut a deal or help as much as possible for any boat in transit. Thanks.

The stuff that isn't painted is the stuff we needed to start it.

I think the fact that you haven't had any offers probably backs up the idea that this is a little high for this engine. Sure, it's a great engine... but there are lots of great engines for 9k!

Ok I see what your saying I should give it away. I bought this engine paid cash.
I have a pretty good Idea what they cost. Maybe go price a tubestack for one.
or the cav injectors. or anything that goes on this engine. Maybe I would give it to someone if they would give me what I want. I posted 70% of what the rebuilder wanted I mean how much of a loss does a guy take ? Everyone is a expert and can buy them for nothing but no posting of a link to get one. No where. I looked but I can only go with what it really costs to do it right. Tubestack is $750.00 doesn't include it's carrier. We all know what the injection costs. Shipping? How about the cost of bolting a bunch of thirty year old crap to it? I will deal but not with some one boating at a desk.

Perkins Engines for Sale on DieselEngineTrader
about 8 rebuilt Perkinks 4-108 for ~4-5k.
If you're member of boatdiesel dot com, look in the classifield, there's one rebuilt, complete with transmission for 5k.
A pro rebuilt cost between 2k and 3k including the parts.

Bought a complète NEW 4-108 on à pallet for $5600
Remember that only about 7% or all 4-108s were installed in marine application. Thé rest were installed in everything from stationary pumps to cars and small trucks. Your local tractor dealer can normally supply Most everything needed for à perkins.

Foley Ta diesel and a host of others seem to disagree with you. I tried to go that route but everyone I spoke with poopooed that whole idea. I just want to get back to my boat which is in Mexico. If you are in need of a marine motor and not a desk expert and not driving a gelh in some yard somewhere. I have a motor for you.

Re: Perkins 4-108 remanufactured bobtail

Perkins folks, I just bought a reman 4.108 block and reman head, then put on all new hoses, heat exchanger, and transferred all the studs and old stuff. By the time I was done I spent $12,000. Maybe Redcoat isn't totally crazy!
...Tom

Confidence is...a good Rawson with a new engine!

Re: Perkins 4-108 remanufactured bobtail

Never said he's crazy, just too expensive. Sometimes mechanics are not honest and make you pay the price of the engine for a rebuilt.
For 9k you can get a brand new mitsubishi with the heat exchanger adapted for marine purpose. Nobody is gonna buy a rebuilt engine more than 6k (for 50hp engine)

Re: Perkins 4-108 remanufactured bobtail

Well a lot of folks never leave the dock either. TA Diesel stays in business somehow. And they want $7200 for the rebuilt block without all the other stuff to make it go.
