Quite a beauty and well-finished. Don't get your hopes up on that price, however. Even ferro in minty condition is no longer understood well enough to command a high price. There's also too many similarly aged FG boats flooding the market of late.

Good luck to you, however.

Re: Offshore Cruising Ketch Colin Archer 40

Hi Alchemy,

You are right about it being a thing of beauty and well finished! I have known this boat for maybe 15 years, as the owners sometimes winter here, between excursions to Alaska and the South Pacific. Only found out it was not a glass hull last year, it is that good. The bilge is dry, no water no oil. Both owners are shipwrights of the old school and after 80000 nmiles it is still in wonderful condition.

As to the price, remember who built this! Remember the 20 years and 80 000 miles the builder has cruised on this FC boat. The over sized everything on the boat. I have a proven blue water GF yacht. Maybe get $45-55k for it + the $32 000 of extras I have just put on it to head off to the South Pacific, if I would have known this boat was for sale before I invested my life savings....... lol

As to similar boats, really ? In my 40 years on the Ocean most on the North Pacific this is one of the few boats I have seen that I am envious of. I am proud as punch of my plastic boat, but if the gods would have looked another way?

Now I do know the owners, but in my humble opinion, FC or not, if anyone is looking for a serious water sailing">Blue water Sailing Yacht, ones like this one do not come along very often.

Re: Offshore Cruising Ketch Colin Archer 40

she is a looker...If I wasnt as good a sailor as I am,I would love to have a boat like that(in case i ran upon a reef!! lol) There once was a FC boat on Guam that couldnt find his way into the boat basin,he put up the full set of sails in a near gale ,heeled over well and then across the reef he went,he beat the reef up real good and brought her in,he then went to jail!! The boat had a few scratchs and the reef took the brunt of its fury..tough old boats if built correct..good luck with the sale..

...but it´s hard to find an insurance for ferroboats.

She´s a beauty without any doubt. I like it because restored a wooden Archer type some years ago.

A beautiful boat.

Many years ago I delivered a FC boat to Mexico. Well built, like a tank, and actually sailed very well (50') along with being very comfortable. The owners then took off for the South Pacific.
