Thanks Waterway and Nauticat!! Made it to LaPaz. One thing about a smoking manifold is it makes you sail and not motor!! Yes, the leak is through a
corrosion crack on the bottom side of the manifold; wish it were the gasket. Had a
mechanic look at it in Cabo and he said it was an easy weld
repair, however Brian at American
Diesel said this kind of crack is not traditionally repairable; that any repair would be temporary. It will be relatively easy to remove the manifold and get it to a weld shop here but I obviously hate to do that only to have it leaking again down the road. That's why I'm still hoping to find a used manifold down here that's in good shape. American
Diesel wants 2500 for a new one and then I imagine the
shipping would be muy rico, as they say here. I was thinking that Cabo and
La Paz would be a good graveyard for
engine parts; cruisers' who have gotten this far and then repowered. But having just gotten here I haven't had time to investigate this yet.
Thanks guys for responding.
