Don't know anything about this listing but the price is way cheap.

The P35 is a great boat that are very strongly built and reasonably quick boats to sail. Did a 15 day solo passage on mine from SF to Hilo. Plenty of room for a single and even a couple.

There are a couple of Morgans on Ebay that also look interesting.

There's a Yahoo group that features free sailboat listings. Most are really project boats and/or smaller daysailers, but every now and then a larger, halfway-decent boat comes up.

Good luck (from a fellow cheapskate)!

OK. Here's another one. In Florida. Tougher condition and no diesel but not so tough that it wasn't afloat in July. Same "charitable" deal. The listing said that this is relisted because the last winner disappeared. This happens a lot on Ebay. I looked it up and the last winner won for about $2100. There were several bidders near that price. Notice that the charitable group tacks on an extra $250 fee above the auction price - I guess to cover their expenses.

I read the survey for that boat. The boat's in amazingly good shape for its age and lack of recent care. You could do a lot worse.

this is really a simple situation. Come on back to the good o'l USA and head for any large boating center. Annapolis, to Ft Pierce. Go to a boatyard and look at the registration stickers. When you see one that has not been renewed recently get the owners name from the boat yard and make a silly offer. There are zillions of unloved, negelected boats ready for a new owner. I once bought 2, 27 ft usable , livable boats for $300 and $500 respectivly. If you can scrape up 1 or 2k you will do well.

Re: Need a Cheap, Cheap, Cheap Boat . . . Did I Mention Cheap ?

If anyone else is interested...

What I'm learning is that owners of boats in the New England area tend to be VERY flexible on terms right now. I would guess the high cost of keeping a boat in a marina ($3-5K/mo) motivates them a bit more than in the southern states. Also, winter is coming and they have to winterize, their boats each year.

I've found a few owners and brokers who are eager to sell and offering pretty flexible terms. There's one Egg Harbor that looks nice (better than just decent), the broker ways it's been flawlessly maintained and needs nothing. The price is high (about $20K) but the owners will finance it with good terms.

That sounds good to me because I would move the boat south where slips are far more affordable but now I'm worried about fuel costs to get the boat there. (in case you haven't noticed, I'm on a really tight budget). $3.50/gallon makes sailing a lot more fun.

Anyway, I'm posting this info in case there are others out there like me trying to catch a deal right now.

Thanks for the PM's too. I will follow up on every lead as I am quite serious about this endeavor. If anyone else hears of anything I would still love to know about it.

Thanks.

$3000 to $5000 per month for marina fees in NE? Seems rather high, did you possibly let an extra zero creep in?

No. It's nutso up there. The marina where this Egg Harbor sits charges $140/ft.

The other marina I found a boat in was in Massachusetts, the slip was $50/ft +electric.

I think they're 'old money' areas with lots of idle rich who need places to park their toys.

Jeez, and I though Florida was expensive...

That sounds more like the season price. I pay $150 per foot + electric for the season (May through October). This is in Ocean City MD. In Chesapeake bay at Chrisfield, it's about 2/3rds of that for the year. Can't imagine someone paying $3K to $5K per month to keep a boat that they want to sell for $20K. Gotta be the seasonal rate.

Read my blog. We sailed from Indiana to Florida via Ohio river and the Mississippi river. The cost is small and the adventure big.

Paying $3/ft/mo here in the Rio Dulce [ the river that swallows gringos ] with lots of cheap boats up for grabs. You are, of course, expected to support the local economy.
If you try being too "frugal" by anchoring out in a trash boat and look the part, no shoes, no shirt, no teeth, the Guatemala Navy will tell you to move on.
Lovely place, by the way.

I think that's it. I read $140/ft and just about fell out of my chair. Reading it again it says 'Summer Season 140/ft'.

The marina in MA is in fact $50/ft.+electric per month.
