Re: Manual chain windlass

That's a Simpson-Lawrence/Lewmar manual vertical windlass. You use a winch handle to power it. A really nice windlass for smaller boats where bow weight is a problem.

For the seller, you'll need to figure out what chain the gypsy is for. If you can get a number off of it, Lewmar may be able to tell you. Failing that, you will need to take the gypsy down to a Chandlery and see what chain fits.

Ah, I see! Would have been awesome on my 30footer, possibly then. Now have a 22,000lb 37footer. A little wee for that I fear.

Re: Manual chain windlass

i think i replied to your pm yes it is the whole windlass it came off my contest 31. around 10 000 lb boat i should check to see what chain size its for i cant see any numbers on it so i will be taking it to a chandlery to check on monday. it looks like its a chain and rope windlass actually it seems to have a space closer to the center where the rope would fit and i will check the size of chain and post monday. no markings on it that i can see

Re: Manual chain windlass

I now have it on my shelf. should be building that part of the boat in 2 months or so. They are VERY hard to find. This one was freshwater only as well it appears.
