Looking for used Head Sails

Hello, I just got my first sailboat. Its a nice little '79 Catalina 22 with a weekender Pop-Top. A previous owner installed an adjustable split back stay, a CDI Furler and from the looks of the equipment on deck, set it up for a Spinnaker.

I just got out of the Army a few weeks ago and I am trying to get into the cruising life, (baby steps first). The guy I got the boat from was mostly honest about what the boat needed. Unfortunately for me, he furled the 150% Genoa backwards and the sun damage is unrepairable. This is according to the sail gurus at Bacon's in Annapolis, MD.

I am in need of at least a Jib and possibly a Genoa if I am going to sail this season. The CDI uses #6 Luff Tape. I wouldn't mind replacing the main, since it's not much better than the Genny, but at least it doesn't have gaping holes in it and can be used. I have looked at all the sail lofts online and not found anything.

So if anyone that reads this has, or knows someone who has some spare sails that are usable. I would be very appreciative to hear from you. I am not expecting free sails, I am just hoping to find a reasonable bargain. I am a novice sailor with some experience, trying to get into the "cruising lifestyle" and I don't want to go broke right out of the gate.

Thank you for your time reading this

Re: Looking for used Head Sails

If Bacon's does not have anything appropriate, try the Cat 22 owners group. Surely out of the thousands of boats someone will have an old jib or two around (I did long ago when I had a C-22!).

Good luck... you can have a lot of fun with those boats!

Cheers,

Jim

Thanks Jim. I was already registered there, but wasn't sure where to pose the question. I will go back and give it a go.

Re: Looking for used Head Sails

Theres always Minneys out in San Diego! There have sails for just about everything! and shipping is some times covered!! Believe me I have used them many times over the years ! and Im about to order some more sails for our ketch from them !( I want a smaller genny as the one we have is a 150, and causes just to many problems hanging up on the staysail!! We want a 110 0r at least a 120. And they have about 10 that will do the job for us, on a 51 ft boat!

Used!

Tried Minney's, and many, many others. Been at it for 3 days now online and phone book lookups, calling friends and family members too.

I am finally having some luck now that I have turned to the forums. But I am still looking for a usable Jib. Anything that will work with #6 Luff Tape, from 70-110% is fine. 19-22 ft luff with a 7-10 ft foot.
