June 2014 Caribbean Charter

Any advice on a decent crewed catamaran charter, anywhere in the eastern carib. for a family of four (2 kids age 8-10). I'm looking for 7-10 days, with plenty of diving, but most of the charters I've found are in the $10-12K range on pretty nice boats. Surely there are a few in the mid thousands, on a little older boats and without all the amenities.

Thoughts or ideas? We'll be taking sailing lessons before the trip and hopefully getting through the coastal cruiser cert's. by then, but I won't be ready to tackle the carib. alone yet.

Yes! Find your Alternate Latitude - Alternate Latitude

Steve is an awesome captain. You can do as much or as little as you want as crew. He is happy to share knowledge or just take you around. One nice thing too is that since it is his boat and not a moorings etc, you can go overnight if you want and to other places that chartering your own boat are not allowed.

I crewed with him last year from Houston to Key West. The boat is in great shape. Ohh and his wife is now on board and is a great cook!

You can try the tall ship Talofa. Cool old ship, nice accommodations, healthy food and I think they were running a special for charters.

BVI sounds like your best bet. How experience are you for diving? You could easily do a Captain only charter and dive on your own - diving is quite easy there.

Try my friend Jim... Sailing Blue Moon He does captain-only charters in the BVI on a very nice older Privilege. We used to do exactly what you want but have now retired.

Thanks for all the advice. Blue Moon looks pretty good, I'll shoot him an email. The Tall Ship sounds fun, but probably tough to scuba from.
