VERY salty indeed! My favorite comment that someone made on mine: "That's not just
equipment, that's infrastructure!"
IDEAL does full rebuilds, even replaces the enclosure with a more modern version that encloses the
motor as well (if yours is an early one like mine where the
motor is outside the
gearbox enclosure).
I just had mine rebuilt by a
marine electrical shop down in Long Beach. They repacked the gears, rewound the motor, repainted the enclosure and polished the bronze capstan and wildcat to like-new appearance. I was stunned at how nice it looked when I got it back - my mechanic's assistant that brought it back up for me thought I had bought a new one! Not bad for under $500.
