I thought the Nuvi was a car type GPS. Does this unit have marine navigation charts with water depth, channel markers and such or just land based road and street maps?

HI, this nuvi 775 is for cars, of course. Look up the specs on the internet. Even us live aboard cruisers go ashore from time to time!

Of course we do. And I carry a Nuvi on board with me for that exact reason and also because it can give Lat/Lon position so I can use as a backup for navigation.

But, the reason I asked is your ad said your Nuvi has "charts" for US and Europe. Since charts, especially in the context of a boating forum, indicate marine navigation charts to most of us and even outside boating most people call the ones with streets and roads a "map" then, at least for me, there was room for confusion. And I have read some questions on the net about downloading marine navigation charts onto a Nuvi so wondered if you had figured out how to do that. If you had accomplished this I would be a buyer.
