Want To Buy: Dinghy that rolls up and is light?

I am looking for a dinghy that rolls up small and stores in a bag. Some people have recommended an older hypalon Avon dinghy.,,I looked up photos of those and they look great! Otherwise even smaller and lighter is good. I have the engine already, it is a 4hp and weighs under 40 pounds.

The dinghy really just needs to be able to hold that motor and up to two people and some gear.

Definitely would like a hypalon roll up inflatable from a company like Avon or Achilles from back when they were made in England and France. But I'm really not too picky, let me know what you've got.

Friends used an avon rollup with the vinyl floor slats to cruise the South Pacific. It was fine. They flex some on the floor in the water but they work well.
The Achilles with the plywood floors are great boats, but it is a PITA to get the floors in and out.

My next dink will an Achilles LS1. Hypalon, outboard bracket, captive scoop oars, 4 person capacity, roll up and lightweight. About $900 bucks.

We have and Achilles LS1 (not for sale).

It has been great, but if you are going to be inflating/deflating it on a regular basis I think you will want a power inflator as well.

I agree, but most of the time I'll just be carrying it on the for deck or on the cabin top. I push my dink (10' Achilles with aluminum floor that I made regid by spot welding 3" aluminum stringers) with 21/2 hp. Suzuki. I get easy 4kn.,Faster than I can row. The LS1 will be even easier to push. K.I.S.S.

North if you do decide to winter in poulsbo there is a second hand chandler there that usually has a couple for sale. Also a days motor away in silverdale you can dock at city marina and walk to kitsap tractor as well.

I recommend steering clear of the Avon Redcrest line and look for one with a wooden transom for that 4-HP. Having a through transom drain plug and an inflatable keel is a real bonus in the soggy PNW.

This may be an excellent option...I had no idea that Kitsap Tractor had inflatables. I bought a Kubota from them..How long ago did they have these boats?

I had an old Avon Redcrest. Excellent dinghy for size/weight, but no transom for an outboard. If you will just be rowing, its fine.

I now have an Avon Rover R2.81 with inflatable floor. Its old, but excellent. It rolls up to a reasonable size, and I can inflate, launch, recover, deflate, all on my own. I use it with a Yamaha 4stroke 4hp outboard. Excellent combination. Its seems like the Avons will last forever. Also, their tube diameter is slightly larger than zodiacs, et al, which makes for better stability and dryness inside. And what can I say about the inflatable floor...sooo nice. Easy on the feet, light to stow, removes for easy cleaning, just love it.

My boat is for sale with or without my dinghy. If I sell the boat without the dinghy, it will be very much for sale...however, not much action on the sailboat right now, with winter rolling in soon.
