Aries Standard Self Steering Wind Vane

I have an Aries Vane in very good condition. It has two plywood vanes, all the lines, blocks, and clips to attach to a tiller chain. The bushings are in good condition. Everything moves freely and when you pull the starboard and port lines it clicks around very nicely.

There is a welded spot on one of the support arms that looks like it was repaired, but the body itself is perfect.

The catch -- there's no servo rudder. I was going to fabricate one, but I started fitting this up to my 27' Starwind and decided it was just too big for my boat.

Asking $650 obo.

Re: Aries Standard Self Steering Wind Vane

I don't know. I came across it hanging in an old guy's garage, and his son said it had been hanging there for years. according the the Aries site they're recommended for 28' - 55'. http://www.selfsteer.dk/

For Edson wheel steering you'd need the wheel adapter available from http://www.ariesvane.com/index.html or you'd need to adapt a similar wheel adapter with a clutch to engage and disengage it.

With a proper wheel adapter it will steer a wheel steered boat, An exception could be an Edson worm gear steerer (too much friction),
