The Ballad hull is solid GRP, with lead ballast encapsulated into the keel. The deck is a GRP sandwich molding, with a smooth inner skin forming the headlining. The mast is keel-stepped and easily accessible and removable.
Albin Ballads are both fast and very seaworthy for their size, with several having crossed the Atlantic from Sweden. They have a reputation for easy, predictable handling. "Yachting Monthly" described the Albin Ballad as: ".... the hull is slim, well balanced and easily driven"

Interior:
The saloon is fitted out in mahogany. A galley and chart table is located aft, beside the companionway. A comfortable pilot bunk is to port with seating space and access to the large chart table. The interior finish is a testament to the quality of fit-out and maintenance.
In the saloon area, there are two full length settee berths, allowing 3 to sleep comfortably. A spacious quarter berth is located aft, for use as a pilot bunk while underway. The spacious, full length Vee-birth located in the bow sleeps 2 comfortably. The saloon and vee-birth cushions were all newly replaced and covered in 2009.
The saloon is completed with a nicely sized, fold-up and removable table. When in place, the table is mounted on 2 legs and fits between the settees. The table comfortably seats 4. For those warm evenings, the table can be very easily installed in the cockpit.
Forward from the saloon, there is the head compartment with a hand operated marine WC. A pull-out wash basin is located over the top of the WC. A hanging locker is opposite from the head.
The stainless steel holding tank, which is installed under the deck, is vented overboard. The WC flushing system is set up to allow pumping overboard, or into the holding tank. Pump-out access is through a deck plate.
Conveniently located in the bow, is the fore cabin with a spacious, full length vee-berth. Lots of storage space is easily accessible and located underneath the vee-berth. Access to the chain locker is forward of the Vee-berth, through a closed access opening.

Engine:
20 hp Yanmar Diesel engine (Approximately 200hrs.). The easily accessible, Stainless-Steel fuel tank is located in the Starboard locker. Filling is done through a deck plate.

The deck has non-slip (Painted 2008 at South Shore Marine). All sail handling is done forward at the mast. The forestay has roller furling gear, controlled from the cockpit. The main is fitted with jack-stays and conventional slab reefing (2-reefs).
The cockpit has new teak seat covers, installed in 2011)
