For Sale: ACR 406 EPIRB (used)

I have an older, used, and working ACR 406 EPIRB for sale. I am only asking $30 for it (plus shipping). The batteries expire at the end of November of this year. (11/2016) and they cannot be replaced by ACR. THIS UNIT HAS A VERY SHORT LIFE SPAN. If you are able to replace the batteries yourself, this might be a good value for you, otherwise it has 8 months left on the batteries.
That being said, it is in good working condition. It has only been mounted inside the nav station. It is a manually deployed unit. You will need to register it with NOAA before using it. Unit is in St. Augustine, Fl area, but I will be in Annapolis from April 5th thru the the 7th.

Hi Will .I sent 2 or 3 days ago a message .Apparently it doesn arrived you .my questions were : Which class of epirb is ?. I found the batteries but Im not sure if fit fine with your ASR 406 .This other is sinside a white box together an hydrostatic sensor .
Im interested .Could you send me a photo of it .

Here is a photo of the epirb. I'm not sure why, but I am only able to post one picture. I have others, but if you zoom in you will be able to see all pertinent info. This is a manually deployed unit, not hydrostatic. Hope this is helpful.

Did ACR say why they "can't" replace the batteries? The original ones were potted in place? Or a voltage type that's no longer available?


Or just the good old "ACR would rather sell you a new EPIRB" routine?

Curious, too. But I think it may be that ACR only replaces them once.

Having personally seen the way that an ACR (different brand but supposedly co-branded with ACR) which bragged about "user replaceable batteries" actually had the batteries thoroughly POTTED into the base section, so that the user had to replace the entire proprietary base (conveniently no longer available as the company had left the business) I have a limited faith in anything to do with ACR.


A user replaceable proprietary battery "module" ain't user replaceable batteries, in my book.


That and a few other things make me feel like ACR are used car dealers. I think I'd have more faith in safety equipment manufactured and sold by Hillary Clinton.(G)
