Re: 56 Formosa "Lost Soul"

Nice boat. I looked at her when I was still shopping a couple of years ago, but they wanted 450k for her then. A little too rich for my blood. I almost bought a sistership named Damascene that hadn't had all the interior teak carving removed like Lost Soul did, but also didnt have the "storm room" or pilothouse that LS does. She failed sea trial and survey and I moved on. Too bad I'm not still shopping, I could have afforded her at the present price, it's a great deal if she's still in the same shape. But I'm glad it ended up that way, I'm happier with the boat I have now. The Lost Soul will make an awesome boat for someone, though. I did a lot of research on the Formosa 56 when I was looking at buying one, they are sweet boats. Totally different animals than the 51, they have a modified fin keel and skeg hung rudder. Much faster boats, though a little tender if left stock. The LS had 10k lbs added to her keel...

It's public domain. We're all on it.

Re: 56 Formosa "Lost Soul"

Lot of good boats out there at that price, many of which will require a fraction of the maintenance of a boat like LS. I've spoken with one person who was allegedly swindled out of deposit money on Lost Soul and the person selling was not even the owner. I would suggest extreme caution and get an abstract of title to insure whoever is selling the boat actually owns it unless it's listed with a licensed broker.

The USCG Vessel Documentation database entry does not provide an abstract of title. Erroneous assumptions like this are a good reason for people to enlist the aid of a competent broker to keep them out of trouble. The only way to know with any confidence what entities have liens on the boat is though a CG Abstract of Title.

If someone is selling Lost Soul and they are not the owner or a CA licensed yacht broker, they are in violation of California law. Check out the CA Dept of Boating and Waterways website for details.
