It is indeed, except she now has new Harken roller furling, and up to date survey, new spreaders, and a rig check carried out. I've had a good year on her (LA - Ensenada - Bahia De Tortuga - Cabo - Puerto Vallarta - Cabo - La Paz) but I do a lot more single handed sailing now than I used to and have my eye on something smaller...

Might want to add a floorplan/layout drawing. From the pictures, it's hard to tell for sure, but looks like even with 54 feet, she's still laid out like a vessel that's 20' shorter.

Her layout is simple inside; a very large aft/state cabin with a corridor through to the main saloon, with a forward cabin and a large bathroom/heads between them. It could be altered but I like the large spacious feeling of it. Some people like lots of cabins however.

There are more pictures on my blog at The Black Wind

Re: 54' Cutter Rigged Ketch for Sale $35,000

Didn't this boat just sale for $18,000 or $19,000 a year ago up in California? And that was with a running Isuzu diesel. The problem having an out of date engine that you can't get parts for means the engine will need to be replaced, no question, for about $15000 on the low side. Being located in Mexico where it’s difficult to get parts is going to make the repowering even harder. Also, I noticed from one of your pics that the material under your cap rail is rusting and breaking down which is the number one cause of water intrusion into a ferrocement hull, with just these two considerations aren't you pricing yourself a little high? I know you've done some work on her in the last year but what is a reasonable price with all things considered? I wish you luck and hope you get a buyer who can bring her back to her prior glory.

Regards,
Mike

No, sorry Nukids2 you have the wrong boat, this one has never been priced as low as that and has never had an Isuzu engine. What was the boat you were thinking of? I also wouldn't bother putting in a brand new engine for that much money - a recon one would be a much wiser move. The engine is a Chrysler Nissan and you can get plenty of parts for it.

The work cap rail could do with a grinder underneath it just to tidy it up yes but it is no major job and presents no problem. If you think it is priced to high, maybe you could drop me a list of 54' yachts that have just been in service for sale at around the 20k mark and I will compare...?

Re: 54' Cutter Rigged Ketch for Sale $35,000

I have to say though, there is something about her and I also would really like to see her in her full glory, or at least being used by somebody like I did. There are so many arguments on parts of this forum for one thing or another to be replaced/polished/whatever before you ever venture out to sea and they are really just an excuse not to get out there.

If you want to sail, go and sail. It is not much more complicated. It is what I have always done and I have never looked back...

On a positive note, i like the boat and think it's priced accordingly.

Thank you Mark! I'm in the very lucky position of not being too worried if I don't sell her, I will just keep on using her. I wonder if I can go a step further and not only sail a 54' yacht with no engine, but do it single handed too...

Sorry Black Wind I do get confused sometimes! I do remember the name of the boat was "Galaxy" and had a pirates skull with crossbones above the name. Pretty cool painting or decal. Maybe I was thinking in Euros and not Dollars!

The Scroll remains but no longer the name lol. Was a good paint job actually. Now it's just the rest of the boat that needs the paint job!
