500 US dollar finders fee for steel sailboat, 38 - 55 feet.

I am looking for steel sailboat, 38 - 55 feet.

A Bruce Roberts design or similar.

The engine must be in running condition and the sails, boom, rigging must be able to take one more travel before being overhauled.

The interior can look as bad as it wants and I prefer no equipment to pay extra for. What I want is a steel boat with decent rigging, working sails, running engine and with not too much welding to do (too much is relative to price).

I am going to Caribbean to start looking in December if nothing turns up.

If you know of a dead cheap steel sailboat that the owner just want to go away, I pay you a finders fee of 500 US dollars. I am ready to buy it right now. The boat must be in Florida, US, Caribbean, Mexico, Brazil, Guatamala, Honduras - you get the picture..

The boat will be sailed away in April, 2013 to the destination for her rebuilding.

Re: 500 US dollar finders fee for steel sailboat, 38 - 55 feet.

There are two boats here I will check further up on today.

Thank you to: Starryvalley for the 15.000 US dollar one. Thank you Triton for that one.
And biltong, I will send an inquiry to them as well. If the price can drop I could be interested.

I will come back in a few days..

The other one was a no go.

This means I am still looking

Re: 500 US dollar finders fee for steel sailboat, 38 - 55 feet.

Ok, I'm gonna but in here and tell you you are getting into deep trouble with this approach.

I understand where you are coming from but.... You are missing the biggest issue, which will cost you much more than you can imagine.

The number one thing you need to look at in a steel boat is the interior steel. The steel needs to have been properly coated and ALL parts of the interior need to be accessible for inspection.

Ultrasound is ok, but I have seen it miss small but deadly rust spots. You personally need to do a survey of the interior steel, bow to stern, side to side.

If it has been recently painted I would tend to walk away, that suggests rust has been covered up.

2 cents from one with 2 steel sailboats.

I might have your boat ; Bruce Roberts Offshore 44 Ketch, rig is real good, engen runs good, sails are definatly usable. We gutted the interior to do the welding, then the depression hit, we are thinking of moving to another project as retirement aproches. Lets talk
