Hi Ron, if you give us a little more info about your level of experience, your cruising plans and personal preferences in boats it'll help us point out good prospects for you.

Re: 35 to 41 ft CRUISING SAILBOAT
Sorry I am new at this, about 36 ft give or take like Pearson, going to start out in the Bahamas and go from there, my wife and I did it for 7 years she is gone now, I am 70 years old but can move lol. Draft is important in the Bahamas. hope this is enough information for you if not let me know. Thanks Ron

Re: 35 to 41 ft CRUISING SAILBOAT
Well, welcome here! Sounds like you want a Pearson 365 which is a great boat, pretty shallow draft (not sure if it is 4.5 feet, gotta check.) Will you be singlehanding? What is your budget like?

Re: 35 to 41 ft CRUISING SAILBOAT
Tartan 34c is also one to look at, though it may not be long enough (?) Or the Tartan 37 perhaps? They have a pretty good rep, those designs. Shallow draft Sparkman & Stephens hulls. Once you settle on a boat you like, we might be able to point out things to check on for that model. (And yeah I know you are hoping one of the folks here from Florida with a suitable boat will chime in, but in case they don't and you see a boat for sale somewhere, maybe someone here can give you pointers on it.)

Re: 35 to 41 ft CRUISING SAILBOAT
I have a 1985 38ft Irwin center cockpit sloop available. 4.5ft draft with board up. Have had it over to the Bahamas several times. $55,000. In Fort Lauderdale.

Since you are singlehanding, have you thought about a boat like a Nonsuch 30? 1 unstayed mast and wishbone rig. It is a bit expensive but very roomy, sails well and very easy to singlehand. Not sure how much it draws, will have to check. What kind of budget are you thinking of?
edit, just checked, it draws 5 feet.
They also made a 36 which is very roomy inside, easy to sail, it draws 5.5 feet. Maybe too much but I understand they are very well-made boats.

Re: 35 to 41 ft CRUISING SAILBOAT
You might do a search of the threads here to see what other folks have said about different boats.
Is the Pearson Vanguard (33') too small for you? It has a 4.5 ft draft and it happens to be one of my favorites. Well made, sails well, cruises well, a little easier to singlehand than a 36 or 40 footer. Just another thought for you.

Also, here is a 365 pilothouse version. Lots of room in this one.

Re: 35 to 41 ft CRUISING SAILBOAT
Ron, I agree 100 percent on the Nosuch and Pearsons for older guys like you and me. Go on yachtworld.com and put those names in under search. If I recall correctly I saw some very nice Nosuch and Pearsons in southern florida just recently.
Sorry about the Mrs. Lost one of those when she was 37 years old. Took me 10 years to shake the grief. Lost my german shepherd last year and still miss him deeply. Wish you a long and healthy life. Get a boat that is easy to single hand...u are on the right track. Envy u

Re: 35 to 41 ft CRUISING SAILBOAT
Ron,
I am your age and I could still singlehand my M 41-6 ketch by only changing the headsail to a double headsail arrangement as a cutter.
I sold it because proper maintenance was to demanding. I like to do all myself for good reason. Not financial.
May I suggest a Freedom 33 or a Herreshoff 31 all big enough for one.
No standing rigging. Easy to sail cat ketches. Shoal draft.
