Water Tanks

Having recently purchased our Bahia 46 we're still trying to work out some of the systems. The specs say we have two tanks holding 800L but we seem to be emptying the tanks at the same rate on our previous boat which only held 400L. The starboard tank may be filling, but we're not sure we're accessing the the water from this tank (yes, we have the connector valve open between the two tanks). Can anyone shed any light on this for us? i..e. Does the starboard tank need a separate pump? Are we missing some really basic step?

Re: Water Tanks

No separate pump. If the crossover valve is open you are drawing from both tanks. Make sure to burp it when filling. Both overflow vents in the anchor locker should be flowing water when it's full. It is easy to trap air and not fully fill the second tank.

Re: Water Tanks

Thanks for the feedback Captainjay - yes we're 'burping' it, and the overflows both run, so we know the starboard tank is full. Just not convinced that it's emptying. Only thing we can think of is to fill up both but then shut off the starboard tank. When the port tank is empty we'll open the crossover valve to determine if we can access the water from the starboard tank. ??

Re: Water Tanks

Sometimes it seems the water is not flowing, but it really is.

About once a year I shutdown the combiner and mostly empty the port tank. Then open the valve to blow the calcification away from the opening, clearing the hose.

Make sure you clean you inline strainer between the tank and pump once in a while..

Re: Water Tanks

800 litres is a lot and would not have been standard or even the factory added tank I think.

Are you sure that it is not 400?
