General Info: Was going to attach safety chain!

Carried fuel can to pre trip our boat. Fingers were slippery from the diesel and when I removed the fuel cap, it slipped out of my hand and fell between fuel tank and fiberglass wall. I then have it a 60% effort to fish it out. Knowing I needed to give 100% because it could fall out of reach. Needed 100%, it slipped down under the tank and now I can't reach it. Now, working on replacement cap!
Lesson: fix it when you think it needs fixed (safety chain) and 100% to do it right!

I had a vintage plastic full spout and I laid the cap up in a cubby hole where, I always thought, it was safe until my 12 YO nephew came aboard and kicked it over board. It turned out to be a standard 2" straight pipe thread. So I bought a plastic 2" pipe plug and machined it down with an O-ring grove to fit the hole. And milled a slot w/end holes for wrenches.
This cap I put on a 1' lanyard with a clip on the end so that it fits the safety lines, since there wasn't a place to attach it inside the fill spout. I just have to be careful not to drop it.

Thanks! I've got a 2" cap on order, but was not sure if it would work. NAPA $35
