Thank You CF Contributors - New D2-40s!

At first I thought it was too good to be true...then I thought it would take a year to get the engines....then....they're in!
The new engines came in to the shop within two weeks of first contacting the local VP expert and the changeout location was quickly lined up. Disconnects, removals, installations, hookups and test runs all completed within one day!
Dick and Chris Vosbury (Vosbury Marine, Annapolis, MD) did a great job, along with the dock and crane crew at Bert Jabin's on Back Creek - professional service all around.
A big "thank you" to all those that posted notes about the VP recall - I didn't receive a letter, like some, and without reading the CF every once in a while and catching the posts about the recall, would never even have heard about it.

THANKS!!!

Pat

Re: Thank You CF Contributors - New D2-40s!

pstadt,

That is great news. We love to hear when ALL GOES WELL.

Can you tell us how they removed the engines?

Did they remove the engines with the sail drive on?

Did they slide the engine forward away from the sail-drive and then remove?

Re: Thank You CF Contributors - New D2-40s!

The engine connections (hoses, wires, motor mounts and connection to sail drives) were all broken (disconnected) and the sail drive remained in place. A chain lift/sling was attached to the two lifting eyes on top of the engine and that chain to a sling attached to the hook on a self propelled crane. The drive shaft on the sail drive projects out about three inches from the forward face of the drive, so I assume they had to slide the engine forward to break that connection before lifting vertically - no other way to do it with the saildrive in place.
The engine was lifted above the sail drive top and turned 180 degrees before raising it out of the engine compartment. Two workers guided the lift out of the compartment and left no signs of obstruction by the hatch (no scratches to the gelcoat). New engines were inserted in the reverse order.

Re: Thank You CF Contributors - New D2-40s!

Awesome update pstadt! I know your boat Jade well, we have seen it near our boat, Know Tan Lines (41 2015 Lipari Evo) in the Third street marina area also. We are current part of the Cruise Annapolis fleet that are parked all through that area. I've been waiting to here news on the D1-30 arrival time frames. We were one of the first people to notify Vosbury Marine of the recall but I'm wondering if Volvo hasn't starting shipping D1-30's yet?

Either way, great news and congratulations with your brand new 40's!!
