Rudder Bushing Details?

Posting this again in case Helia owners skipped over my post with the "Orana 44" heading - please pardon the duplication.

I believe the external bushing between the rudder body and the hull is wearing thin on our 2011 Orana (and think it might be similar to the Helia's rudder assemblies). STBD still has plenty of hull clearance.
I don't have any details on the dimensions for this piece and am just assuming the material is Delrin.
Does anyone have detailed drawings on this assembly or know of the dimensions and material for this and the other bushings associated with the rudder assembly?

Thanks,
Pat

The rudder bearing components are made by JP3.

Their is an upper rudder bearing in your engine room at the top of the rudder post.

The lower bearing is at the top of the rudder where the post goes into the hull.

You can order bearing parts online from a local JP3 dealer.

Here is more information that may help.

Re: Rudder Bushing Details?

Cotemar, thanks for the drawing - good details on the internal bearings.

What I'm really after though is the detail on the external bushing - the disk that sits on top of the rudder and provides a spacer between the rudder and the external hull. At least on my Orana, there is a disk atop each rudder.

Perhaps it's not worthy of a detail and might just be a generic disk of either 3/8" or 1/2" Delrin. Just wanted to make sure before I bought a sheet of that material since it's about $60 a sheet.

I believe the large washers are made out of Delrin.

Also make sure that your Orana 44 rudders are not sliding down, as the older design just had some allen screws holding them in place.

Helia 44 rudders are now thru bolted.
