Pity I had to replace 1 block at vast expense (due to minor explosion into components).

Seems to be 8mm dyneema soft shackle. At least that is what I used at the mast end

Didn't realize you had them at both ends. Works ok?

Can you post a photo plz? Mine do swivel but the other problem I have had is the blocks can get caught behind each other and then the sheet wont run freely. Would be interested to see the differences in your set up.

I made the one closest to the mast when I fitted the single line reef (jiffy reef). Works well. I just bought the ring and then made the soft shackle to suit. I have been making a few soft shackles, certainly a useful skill. I have a bag of dyneema rope in various sizes and some knitting needles. Simple easy and cheap. I will try and get a photo when the sail is up but it looks basically the same as the photos I posted earlier.

I had tried the block on a stainless shackle but it kept getting stuck on the sail track. You could stay with a block as I think the stainless shackle is the issue, its too stiff and not long enough. The softy is about twice as long and flexible so it allows the ring, or block to ride up on the side the sail instead of trying to sit at the front and bind on the track.

Re: Rig and Sails

Toys,

Did you buy the Harken soft shackles at Whitworths? Did you get the rings as well?

If so can you give me a reference in their catalogue? Page or part number ?

Thanks

daniel

Re: Rig and Sails

I bought the ring at Muirs at manly then made the soft shackle myself. I can send you a link on how to, look at L36 for instructions. I just made it the same as FP had made theirs.

Sorry the rings are Ronstan not Harken. Was looking at part No RF8090-16, Whitworths cat No 35638 AUD$19.95 page 125 of 2014 winter edition. Haven't bought them yet or sorted out the soft shackles.

You better stay away from those Helia things. You will get size envy and that can be v. expensive. Seriously though how did you think it compared to your Lipari?

My set up looks similar but find that blocks swivel past each other and reverse then sheet gets twisted and increases the friction. Tried putting bolt through centre of both blocks but that wasn't successful either. Maybe I'm just a perfectionist??

I ended up buying some dyneema from
Dyneema (R) High Strength Rope. - Rope Galore

And learnt how to at

Soft Shackles

you can also find lots of U Tube videos on howto by searching Google for

soft shackle

I bought a few different size knitting needles at the local Salvos store for a couple of bucks to use as fids. Quite good fun making them.

The Boss loves her washing machine. Fully automatic except for the hanging up part. Works well but does use about 15ltrs of water per wash so only while in the marina.

Had fun putting my pretty blue lights on the back steps. Found the solar controller has a night light outlet that turns on automatically when dark and turns off after a preset amount of time. Made it very simple to wire in as the controller is in the port engine room.

Re: Rig and Sails

Anyone know the ZSPAR model number of the Lipari mast? I always thought it was Z 701 but the sizes don't quite match the diagrams.

Really trying to get the part number for the masthead sheaves as I think I have a piece missing on one of mine. Not a big problem but would like to replace it.

Anyone had to replace a sheave so know the part number?

Thanks
