Helia 44: Outside Woodwork

Helia 44 owners,

Not a big fan of woodwork on the outside of a sailboat, but after putting three coats of Clear Satin Spar Urethane on all the cockpit woodwork it really looks great.

The teak bow seats had some black spots on them and we did not want the extra maintenance and cleaning that out door teak requires, so we cut some new seats out of King Starboard Marine Lumber.

These new bow seats are maintenance free and will last the life of the boat.

They cost $55 each with enough material left over to make a large cutting board.

A few owners have said that they have lost a bow seat or two on a rough passage. I can see why.

There are only 4 small #6 wood screws holding the seats on.

I drill another hole in the front area of the seat. Now each seat has 5 larger #8 screws.
