Did they have to grease you up to get you in there ?

Noank Shipyard can be an awful place to deal with. The people are nice, but will pick your pocket any chance they get - you have to watch them like hawks for overcharges.

Looks like 10mm but I don't have calipers, only a rule and eyesight so it could be marginally different.

Now that I am heading home I feel the need to get engaged in the real world again.

I thought I would put up a couple of photos from the many hundreds we took so far in 10 weeks of cruising. Just because pics are nice to look at and all this talk of laying up boats for winter needs a counter balance.

Reflexion at Peppers Resort Long Island when we treated ourselves to a 5 star dinner and the best view from a loo in the world. It took my wife some patience and luck to get that shot!

I asked Volvo Penta what I thought was an easy question.
Boy was I wrong.
I just wanted to know what the prop dia. and pitch was for my Volvo Penta D1-30F engine with the sail drive. Hate to tell you what I went through, but I will post the info in case anyone wants to know or needs spares.

The attached Bullitin conversion chart will work for the D1-20 engines also.

Thanks for sharing those photos. I am now getting impatient to head up north. Having had a go at FP, I thought it would be a good time to show why we bought our Mahes in the first place.

Here is a photo of WW doing between 8 & 9 kts in Sydney Harbour. We weren't racing anyone, but did overtake a few boats. Some guys on one boat were staring at us, so I waved at them. They kept staring (glaring?) so I shrugged it off as a mono vs cat thing. I usually get a wave back from cats, but the reaction from deep keelers is mixed.

Anyway, I turned and sauntered back to the helm, camera in hand, to check up on things, when it hit me: no one was at the helm! Wind was blowing 17kts, I was on starboard tack, so after checking that the coast was clear, I pressed the auto button and enjoyed the scenery. One guest was on the tramps taking photos, and the rest were in the cockpit with food and drinks on the table. The monos were at various angles of heel, so I guess they weren't too happy about us "non-sailors" overtaking them, oh, so casually.

This first link shows 372.03 and I did not hit the check out button, maybe it’s in euro. The second link shows a little more than you paid, so I am sure you are correct on the price.

How old were your props blades before they needed replacing ?

Since I have Catatude on the hard for the winter I removed the props and brought them into my basement to coat them with PropSpeed. I must have 7,500 mile on them and they look great.

Made a Stern Hand Rail upgrade after watching some of my guest having trouble getting aboard. Seems the quest were always in the wrong place and had to reach to the outside hand rail all the time, so I added the two inside ones. Now the quest just grab onto both hand rails and have an easer time getting aboard.

They were $30 each at Defender. And each one takes about 15 minutes to install.

Hi all,
A year ago I changed the swimming stairs from starboard to port. Reason is simple: the swimming stairs are in the way when stepping ashore when on starboard.
It turned out:
1. The holes for the mounting screws do NOT align between SB and port. Means you can change the stairs from SB to port without trouble, however the bar from port will not fit SB.
2. The screws just go through the thin fiberglass, there is nothing behind. And 5 out of the 12 screws were already lame when I unscrewed them.
This is a serious safety issue: imagine somebody falls overboard, you have to save him, and in the wild water the stairs detach from the boat.

Solution was to mount the stairs with bolts i.s.o. screws. These bolts go into compressible tubular nuts. These look like big stainless steel rivets with thread on the inside which are expanded using a bolt.
Care should be taken to re-position the holes slightly to enable exchange between SB and port.

Only disadvantage is that the outside shower is now on the other side than the swimming stairs. Not a big issue in the Baltic and North sea.

My name is Al and Itook del. of my mahe 36 in France in Nov. of 08. I sailed it back to the US myself with 3 other crew. Sailed it to miami and then up to long island where it is now. The dealer I bought if from was Willmarusa which is now out of business. He stiffed me on $ 30,000.00 worth of options which I paid for and never recieved. He kept the boat in his yard for 8 months and told he was working on getting the work done. He lied all the time. JC knows this dealer very well. Have read most of the post and it sounds like it will be a great site. Hope to add when I can to learn alot also.

I was just "that close" to buying one from him when I was looking at JC's boat at the November 08 show in St. Pete.

The deal sounded too good to be true. Free docking for a year if able to show, lots of "stuff" etc.

We Purchased our Mahe from WillmarUSA in Feb. 2009 and all went well, so maybe we were just lucky. Hope to see you in Long Island Sound next summer. Have not been to Port Jeff in a few years but had fun when we where there.

The Mahe is a great boat and I am sure you will have a lot of fun with her.
We sure had a ball this past summer just about living on her all season.
