Orana hull window seals are "leaking" black on the topsides

The oval hull windows seals on my Oran are ,as soon they are getting wet leaking black. Looks bad on the topsides after each sail and is a pain to remove.

Sure this is a known problem and an easy fix.

Boat is an Orana built year 2008.

Thanks for any help how to fix this

Yes this is or was a problem by me too. FP brocker recommended using silicon wax on the black sealant. This did help. But I have found that washing the window surrounds with plenty of soapy water and a sponge regularly reduces the black streaks significantly.

I have the same problem on my 2010 Salina.
All black sealant from all windows leaves black streacks.
I thought it was going to stop after some time, but it has not.
It cleans with detergent, but that is not the answer, I'd love to find a permanent solution.

Re: Orana hull window seals are "leaking" black on the topsides

I had this on the cockpit window on our Athena. The black window sealant is eroding away, presumably due to sunlight on the edges and leaves a horrible mess when you wash the boat down. I gave it a really good scrub with a stiff bristle brush which erodes the sealant further leaving a U shaped groove between the window and grp and then used Black Marinflex (which is a 1 part polyurathane sealant/adhesive like some Sikaflexs'. After 3 years no more black streaks so far. The same problem is starting on the main saloon windows, but less seriously as they are protected by the eyebrow. I plan to do those next year but will probably have to bodge up a shaped tube to get the goo in the right place.
Its a messy job, you can either mask up which is tricky, insert the goo, shape using a plastic tube and then remove the tape. Or, don't mask and wait until the mastic starts to harden and then use a paint scraper/chisel to peel off the excess. Spraying with water will accelerate the hardening

Same thing - 2010 Salina.
I gave her a good blast with my pressure washer ( yes, the seals are still ok) and took all of the black s.it out. Now it is much better.
Wash regularly.

Re: Orana hull window seals are "leaking" black on the topsides

Hi, my Orana 44 from late 2009 had the same problem 2 months ago. The window was taken out (by cut the silikon) and again glued in place. now it´s safe. It was done in about 5 working hours plus drying time in one day in Lissboa, Marina Parque da Nacoes from the shipyard there for a very good price, around € 250.-

Another member has posted on this here: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...n-38755-2.html (see post 25 in that thread).

I've not tried it yet but intend to.
