Re: New Model

I just really don't like the dingy set up FP is going to. With the dingy nesting under the sun lounge, it is exposed to heavy seas. A Salina in my marina has it's motor basically dangling 12" above the water. It has to drag. Also, at best your going to get a 13' rib under there and no console. The new Lagoon 56 is far better in design with this, IMO.

The best design in this size cat at a similar price is the Voyage. My big negative with the Voyage is that it too plasticy. There is very little wood work to make the boat feel comfortable.

I have a Salina and find the arrangement really good if the dinghy is pulled up tight against the bottom of the sundeck:
  1. It stay tight even in a cross sea, no more chafing side to side or fore-aft.
  2. No rain water to drain, very little sea water when in rough sea.
  3. The aft buoyancy of the Salina is massive, big following seas just lift her and the dinghy of course lift with the boat, I never noticed a wave slamming it.
  4. The sundeck is great, so much extra space that the dinghy on davits would use.
Of course if the owner hasn't fitted the lines properly, then the dinghy will hang loose and close to the water.

As far as the Lagoons, they are lovely looking boats, but are too heavy; for instance, the 500 has a lightship weight of 17 Ton, that is 70% heavier than the 10.5 Ton Salina, that makes a lot of difference on any sailboat, but on catamarans it makes an enormous difference!
That is one of the reasons why the Salina was the only production boat that I considered fit to my requirements of liveaboard/ cruising.

Re: New Model

By definition, the new Sanya has got to be compared up against Lagoon 560.. To me, FP has done an excellent job by incorporating the flying bridge without compromisisng the sailing ability and seaworthyness of the boat.
I share partly the view of Palarran regarding the aft sundeck; it's great for a charter boat and coastal sailing but it seems to me a bit dangereous for offshore sailing.

Cheers
