Re: Need 60 mm Sanitary Discharge Hose

Dreaming Yachtsman - What did you decide to do to solve your replacement hose need? I'm looking to do the same for our new-to-us Belize.

Thanks

Pete

Were you able to order in English? The little French I learned 50 years ago has long evaporated from my feeble brain.

Re: Need 60 mm Sanitary Discharge Hose

Google translate works wonders. Late last week I sent an email to Sofomarin's asking if they have a US distributor, or would sell directly. I haven't heard back yet. (I've had others remind me that this is the holiday/vacation period in France/Europe, so it may take time for a response.)

I speak less French than you

I called them and they spoke English on the phone, once they figured out I don't speak French.

Re: Need 60 mm Sanitary Discharge Hose

DotDun,

I have been dealing by e-mail with Sofamarin in France to get new 60 mm hoses for my holding tank discharges. They quoted 82.€ for 1.5 m of hose, 120€ for shipping by postal service, and €383.63 by federal express for a delivery next week. Estimated shipping weight is 5 kg. These prices seem exorbitant to me.

Are those prices consistent with your experience?

Re: Need 60 mm Sanitary Discharge Hose

Dreaming Yachtsman,

I got tired of waiting for Sofomarin to return emails/calls. I recently replaced all head plumbing using Trident sanitary hoses, and used the black marine exhaust hose 2 3/8 (60mm) to replace the old large hoses. This hose meets requirements of sanitary purposes. It also much less expensive and more easily purchased.

Trident ply, part number 200-2389.

Good luck,

Pete

I paid 43.60/meter for 1.2m (52.32 total) and 60 euro shipping in 2008.

Re: Need 60 mm Sanitary Discharge Hose

Trident makes a multi-purpose hose that is available in 60.3 mm (2-3/8")

It's good hose and recommended for sanitation use. If you can't find it, I can order 12-1/2 foot, 25 foot or 50 foot lengths for you.

This is really an amazing hose that can do almost anything on a boat.

HopCar,
I missed this posting when you put it up. What is the catalog number for the hose? The link above took me to "404 Page Not Found".

I'll be in Miami in early January and would like to pick up 12.5 feet then.

Thanks,

Re: Need 60 mm Sanitary Discharge Hose

Hi John, It looks like they've made some changes to their website.
It is the Trident Ocean-Flex – #321 that I was talking about.
Try this link: http://tridentmarine.com/wp-content/...tion-Sheet.pdf

I'll figure out a price on a 12.5 foot length and email it to you.

Re: Need 60 mm Sanitary Discharge Hose

I finally have a few minutes to spare so decided to post the last, hopefully, chapter of this story. I purchased the hose HopCar discussed in post #25 above from his store and replaced the port discharge hose. Amazingly the hull valve was sealed to its through-hull fitting with caulking. Removing the old hose required some twisting, which broke the seal at that joint, which then started leaking seawater. After a day to reseal that joint and let it dry, I put a new hose on. Also amazing to me was the dimension of the hose connection at the bottom of the tank: 55 mm! I glued a thin spacer in that end of the hose and cinched down the hose clamps until the leakage stopped. I then filled the tank with sea water and let it sit for another day to check for leaks. I was overjoyed when the entire line was dry the next day.

When I have time I will replace the hose on the starboard tank as well. That will be in conjunction with finding and stopping leakage from the Vacu-Flush toilet onto the deck in the head, another very annoying problem.

Re: Need 60 mm Sanitary Discharge Hose

DotDun, I also need about 42 inches of the 60 mm hose from Sofomarin. How did you order yours? I'm assuming you bought the TUDISPI60?

I called them. My total order was 180e and they charged 60e shipping. Here is a copy of the 60mm hose from that order.

Re: Need 60 mm Sanitary Discharge Hose

Brian take a look for Trident 321 in 2-3/8" (60.3mm). It's sanitation rated and should be easier to get on this side of the Atlantic.

Maybe John, Dreaming Yachtsman, has some extra he'd like to get rid of?

Do a lot of boats use 60mm sanitation hose? Maybe I should stock it.

Re: Need 60 mm Sanitary Discharge Hose

Hi HopCar,

Actually, I did message John privately to ask him if he had 45 inches left over.

And you know what? I DID approach Defender to ask them if they would consider stocking it, but I guess they are going to go the safe way and they said no. However... this hose only seems to last about 5 years or less before the smell begins to permeate. There are a LOT of boats out there who use the 60 mm size and to get it presently one has to email with Sofomarin in France and negotiate them to send some across the Atlantic which is pretty expensive. That is if you are able to get their attention, which seems to have been the problem with some searchers.

It seems to me a retailer on this side of the pond is going to have no problem to cut down a 12.5 foot length and sell it by the foot and still make a nice profit. I'm at the point I'm considering just putting my old hose back! I just can't seem to find anyone who will sell me just 45 inches. The stuff is so expensive I just can't justify buying 12.5 feet when I only need a third of that.

For sure from what I've been reading, it is a major pain to find this hose. Anyone who can supply it to boaters in North America is going to have the market to themselves!
