For those interested in a back up to their navigation software ( I run Maxsea on my laptop) I have discovered an APP for my iPad called Australia NZ HD , it is a navionics system that retails for under $ 46.00 AUD , ans has all navionics charts for OZ and NZ. It uses the built in GPS ( you need the 3G version of the iPad) but I have set up mine so that it also communicates via WiFi with the onboard network and get the input from the boat's GPS .
There is an NZ company ( TALON) who manufacture a special mounting bracket with 12 volts supply + built in USB port for the iPad 2 which I have installed at the helm station and it is really superb . There is also another APP ( Free) called Marine , which will give you all weather information as well as sea state with Google earth map view also wirth having .
