Manufactured Battery Shelf Add-on Port Engine Compartment

After a review of attachment pro's and con's, I decided to mount my extra battery shelf adjacent to the auto pilot sender and steering rudder platform. I attached a 1.5 (almost square) x 14 inch piece of wood to the bulkhead; shaping the bulkhead side to match the boat contour. It's secured with 5200 in lieu of glass. (just in case it needs to be removed one day). The platform is 3/4 plywood I sealed and eventually painted grey. For battery clearance I did jigsaw off a small section of the rudder platform. As you can see, the SS trubolts and shelf are separated by aluminum tubing. The rudder platform is not level, so I used them to square up the shelf to the level wood on the bulkhead. The shelf is tight and will flex a bit with 5200. Good luck Ken

Re: Manufactured Battery Shelf Add-on Port Engine Compartment

I'm answering my own message and posting the finished pics of the Mahe battery shelf. The cost of materials sits about $40US and about $1000US in mental equity of where to put it.....lol.

P/List: 3/4 inch x 10 x 15 engineered plywood/exterior grade.
2ea x 1" x #10 SS Phillips head wood screws
3ea x 1.5" x 3/16# Phillips head wood screws
1ea x 3/8" x 18 x 2.5" SS bolt
1ea x 3/8" x 18 x 3.0: SS bolt
2ea x 3/8" x 18 SS wood anchors
6ea x 3/8" SS flat washers
1ea 1" x 1/5"x 15 pine wood for bulkhead shelf mount
6 inches of aluminum 1/2 tubing for shelf to rudder
platform spacers
3M 5200 adhesive
Grey boat grade paint
Group 31 Marine grade battery mount

Good luck, Ken

That is a great Mahe upgrade. That should bring you up to 500Ah.
perfect use of an unused airspace.

Great Job
