Mahe 36 - steering cables anchored on chipboard

Hi

I was sailing in 20 -30 knots wind and the chipboard where steering cables have been anchored was ripped.

I would like to know how to rectify this problem? Does anyone have the same experience?

Thanks.

Not good.
Reckon you will have to replace the chipboard with something substancial.

Re: Mahe 36 - steering cables anchored on chipboard

I am assuming you are talking about the plywood shelve by the rudder where the cable attaches to the boat. It is prone to cracking right at the bracket. I fixed one of these by cutting an additional piece of marine grade plywood much larger than the damaged area. I sandwiched it with west system and biaxial cloth between the two and covered the new board with cloth and epoxy as well. Then added new longer bolts to go through the doubled up shelve.
