LAVEZZI 40 and OSMOSIS

Hallo,
we're currently negotiating the purchase of a Lavezzi but we are now not sure, because of some rumors about osmosis problems.

Lavezzi court case
Fountaine-Pajot Lavezzi court case - osmosis

Several used Lavezzis are offered on the market with either repaired or infected osmosis:

Offered Lavezzi from 2002 in England
“Both Hulls where pealed and expoyied, warranty of the repair by FP”

Offered Lavezzi from 2003 in BVI
“..developed very early blisters and was repaired….”

Offered Lavezzi from 2003 in Turkey
http://de.boats.com/listing/boat_details.jsp?entityid=16790871
‘The ozmos treatment hass been resolved by the official Fountaine- Pajot distributor of Turkey by guidance from the factory.5 year warranty can be gived for treatment”

Offered Lavezzi from 2005 in Greece
http://www.boatshop24.com/web/de/werften/s/f/fountainepajot/1965178.htm
‘Full osmosis after 3 years. No warranty by FP, because for second owners only 3 years warranty is given.’

Also in this Forum some statements about Lavezzi and osmosis were made :

pguillemin from 02-09-2008
“Still did not know anything about the osmosis problem with Lavezzi
More than 200 boats has been build so far and I will check with the shipyard about the problem”

yeloya from 09-01-2009
“However, I know that for some reason osmosis in Lavezzi's is a much more common issue than in any other FP production. I am not saying that this specific Lavezzi has it too, but just a warning.”

We would be happy to buy and sail a lavezzi, but presently we are uncertain about the building quality. Five osmosis infected boats in respect to 200 build boats are a lot.

Any serious comments are welcome.
pguillemin: What is the result of your check with the shipyard ?
yeloya: Can you explain more about your stated ‘some reasons’ ?

Two try,

The Lavezzi in Turkey is actually the one you referred to in the above link. I recently bought the Charter and service company who made the first treatment on this boat under the warranty of FP. My staff is telling me that the boat had to be put back in water way too early (owner's decision) and had the same problem again. 8to a lesser extend though) Now it is being treated again and they are telling me that 5 years warranty can be given.

I don't know exactly what "some reasons" are.. If FP has almost never had osmosis problem but had just too much on Lavezzi's, something must be wrong.. There could be several reasons but our staff tend to believe that in one batch of gel coat supply there must be something wrong with the quality that could not be detected at the production stage. However this could not be the ONLY reason, unless they did use this batch exclusively on Lavezzi's. (Otherwise, we would have had on other FP's as well) It could also be early stage of their new production system, installation of new line with the booming demand, etc..
The only real cause should be known to FP and unless they declare it officially, I have to use the term "for some reasons"..

Cheers

Yeloya

Apparently it affected 2003/04 Lavezzi's and was the result of gelcoat chemistry. The structural layup isn't affected. Oddly enough, the keels and rudders are made separately from the hull. My boat had blisters on the rudders - I had that fixed and put an epoxy barrier coat on the hulls.

As far as I'm aware it doesn't affect any other models. Or the more recent Lavezzi's.

lavezzi osmosis and windlass

Our Lavezzi fine in all respects...no osmosis..its 2006 model
Excellent boat, blue water, speed
BUT..our 3 yr old 1000 v Lofrans Cayman windlass has a corroded base, and the screws were too short...
and the windlass came free whilst pulling in anchor

Now the dilemma is, a new windlass for $2000 AUD, or repair?
Has anyone else had this problem? What is the expected life time of a windlass?

AND..are either Mackay Marinas or yepoon/s Keppel Bay, suitable to berth the cat over the cyclone period
AND
whats the best forum to sell a cat. A broker?

Thanks

FP will be announcing news soon on a new model in 40' range may be a replacement for one of their most successful models the Lavezzi 40.The next boat show is in Sanctuary Cove Queensland Australia,on the 21st May.I believe it may be a similar layout to the Orana 44.
