Hello, I am an owner of a Lipari. I wanted to start a thread and hopefully a discussion to share some info.

Some of my modifications from the basic model I purchased.

Vaccuflush heads
Parasailor cruising sail
Small modificaiton to the anchor locker to hold lines
Cockpit dodger
Raymarine, Ais,
increase house batteries capacity



If anyone has information or photos of how you rigged a spinnaker that would be wonderful. I am looking specifically how it was rigged to the cockpit.

This is a little off topic but I am looking to buy a FP42 and can you tell me what you think about your boat, it's comfort, sail ability, how it handles light and heavy wind.

I just looked at a FP 38 but fear I would overload it and effect it performance.
I think a little bigger model would suit me better.
My budget of under $200k is limiting my options.
I have been on a 38 and a 42 both are nice boats in my opinion.

You are going to find a much nicer 38 in your price range compared to the 42...

Everyone is looking for a good cat under 200k... When a good one comes up for sale the go quickly... The ones sitting on the market for more than 6 months are there for a reason...

Hello,

First, I am sorry I started this in the wrong spot. Second I am not familiar with the numbers referenced by rickwest. I familiar with the Models Lipari 41, Helia 44, Orana 44

Sailing characteristics. She is light. I wouldn't worry too much about overloading her. She is 6000 lbs lighter than the lagoon or seawind equivalent, which are the two other cats I have experience with. Due to the lightness and free board she moves it a slight breeze, but with 2 30hp Volvo's even with the folding props she is very responsive. if you put her in gear she starts moving.

She sails in light winds easily. Can barely get to 30 deg though in light winds, while on a seawind all weekend in 7 knots we could point at 25 deg. I do find that with the fully battened sail she can sail in light wind, but when we get around to the deeper angles the sail is so big and the shrouds are located aft that I inevitabely have the sail on the shroud. I heavier winds the battens do not allow the wind to spill as easily so reefing early is a priority.

Like I said I bought a Parasailor and haven't flown it but for about an hour on this boat. I think that will help with the deeper angles sailing.

I asked the moderator if this could be moved to the proper location. We shall see, or I will start a new thread there.

I'm curious what speed you were able to achieve compared to apparent wind speed. My speed drops fairly linearly under 60 off and really drops at 40-45 off, >40 = admiral orders to start engines

If aws is in the range requiring a reef, I don't like the stress placed on the rigging at the closer angles.

Seems I am not the only one that thinks your angles are optimistic but you believe and that is all that matters.
Neither of the FPs I have owned or own can or could get close to your figures. Go figure !!

I am the witness. I was at the helm while Thad worked the sheets and we tacked from channel to bay. Was surprised at how high the Seawind pointed.

You can point (the nose of the boat) even 0 deg into the wind - but you will not move a single meter there. Anything closer to 45 deg apparent will produce very slow speed and tons of drift!

If you are the real witness - make a photo of the actual GPS track on both tacks - the angle will not be narrower that 100 degree (unless you cheat with the engine on).
