Hi I own a Sany 57 Fountaine Pajot, my good friends Stefano and Helen own a Salina 48 for about 3 odd years, I sailed with them for a year and there boat was never a charter boat, owned by a Master 5 skipper who always maintained her well. Novae is the vessels name always sailed extremely fast even in light winds. Do you really want to take a boat out in extreme winds, not likley but a few times they have been caught out in bad weather and the comment that Stefano gave was brilliant even in bad conditions.

I know he had a noise problem in one bedroom that was easily fixed and no problem since. The Salina is a beautiful Catamaran, its spaciest, safe and fast with great finish.
My second choice would be a Salina 48, thou I am very happy with our Sanya 57

I also beached her in the Las Perlas (Panama) to clean the bottom.
The sand was soft and she sunk about 200mm, the rudders less, but it was not a problem, I cleaned the sunken bits when she floated again.

Ou - dangerous... I bent the rudder axle (on a charter cat) once - not an easy task to make it straight.

I do like this - put couple of woods under the back of the "sole" will make her flat and protect the props/rudders - she can only sink front.

To clean the barnacles I use the Karcher pressure washer + generator - with extension water intake for the gene...

Household fridge & bottom freezer (LG) in a Salina. Looks like a Sanya galley now

Electric convection over & microwave to replace gas oven. Solar+LifePo4+Victron 3kw inverter to power all of that...

So our lovely FP Salina "Eva" swiftly sailed from Dubai to Turkey (just a week before the Yemen war). Cruising Greece now.

220v concept and household fridge+freezer proved to work great. We stored meat from Dubai and feed 3 people 40 days en-route and had 1/2 still left.
Large MW + electric oven - great
LifePo4 batteries + 3kw Victron - could not be happier.
5kw small gene - sufficient and economical.
Large household 6kg washer - great
Dishwasher - never used
Large 200l watermaker - only used to produce drinking water.

With optional gennaker and 165sqm spinaker - she is a great lightwind sailor.
Properly reefed - can hold 40-50kn of wind and terrible short Med wave.

I am totally happy with her.

Just found this old thread. We are currently living in Dubai and thinking of a Helia or a Salina. But very concerned on the sail from here to the Med.

You should not be too concerned - hire the pro team to south Egypt and join in Port Ghalib.

There is no reason to risk personally in the Red Sea.

I would get extra flexi tanks (plus 800l) to slowly motor along Oman (get fuel in Muscat, cheap) and avoid any African ports before Port Ghalib.

. And use prevailing winds in spring. Egypt and Suez is easy.

Pro team or not.... might risk the boat as well. I guess insurance will require another mortgage for the Yemen stretch only

Nobody will take the crew, but the owner risks alot.
I got Allianz global coverage, but you know these insuranse cos

)
The crew co-ordinated with International Forces over sat and vhf, used the corridor - all went well.

At first I got some crazy quotes (pirates!) but then I had very pro Russian skippers (all three, one owns a 48ft cat) at eur2 per mile general course overall plus some cheap flights and two trunks of food

There are no pirates anymore, but you don't want to check it out

Thanks a lot. Somehow it seems easier to keep the boat somewhere in the Mediterranean and fly in and out the first year(s)

We've recently discovered the Salina as we peruse through the classifieds on Yacht Trader and are really liking what we're seeing! We specifically like the Evolution and the upgrades that are on those. The problem is finding an OWNERS EVOLUTION that is even somewhat close to us to look at. We're in the PNW and still a couple/few years away from taking the plunge but I like to plan plan plan!

I've watched pretty much every video walk through I can find and no one does a good job at all showing the Galley, or storage, or what on earth is in those storage cabinets on the back of the boat next to the sugar scoops!

I have an ask, does anyone that has an Owners Evolution have the ability to do a walk through video (you don't need to talk, haha) and post it somewhere? I'm really curious about all the storage compartments, how the galley really looks, the owners Head, storage up front where the water and fuel usually is, etc.

We'd love feedback from owners of these gorgeous Cat's as they're really at the top of our list for our family! It'll be my wife and (currently 8 y/o) son and myself living aboard here in Seattle.

But this is regular charter. The owner Salina (especially in later Evo layout - they are dark brown) are much rarer.

That is why I jumped on it when I found it nearby.

I have been persuaded to take up a position in Geneva next year. If I decide to take it, my Salina (owner Evo, with VAT paid and EU reg) will be for sale.

Seems no one ever cares to open anything up to show what's underneath ...

Keep me appraised if you end up selling your Salina. It may be too early for us but I've put together a tracker and am starting to track global listing prices for 4 cabin and 3 cabin models.
