Re: Fuel Consumption

I was chasing fuel consumption numbers for my Volvo D1-30F engines. I found this web site

Volvo Penta Diesel | D1-30 | 30 hp | Fuel Consumption - Liters per hour

Shows interesting figures. Would you feel this is reasonably correct?

Also interested in while basic cruising what RPM's do most people run at. 1 or 2 engines?

Re: Fuel Consumption

We only use one engine at 2400 rpm for cruising with a VP, D1-30.
We have a sail drive with VP folding props.

Volvo Penta D1-30F engine use 3 blade folding prop:
17" Dia. X 12" Pitch Left Hand (Counter Clockwise)

Re: Fuel Consumption

I had seen this graph before but intrigued by the fuel consumption numbers as it seems very different to what the web site shows. It shows a dramatic jump between 2000 and 2500 rpm. Have you done any numbers on what you burn per hour at 2400 on one engine?

Thanks

We have never been to a fuel dock in the five years that we have owned our boat. I fill her up with a 5 gal (18.92 liters) can.

I use about a shot glass of fuel everytime I go sailing, so it's really really hard to tell how much I fuel I burn.

Re: Fuel Consumption

Hi

I would think these numbers are reasonably correct. I find it depends on the sea conditions but with 30s runs at 3 l/h and 40s 4l/h at 2400.

I run 1 engine at 2400 as this seems to be the optimal cost to power ratio.

Agree also that 4 20l jerries at 80l will allow for up to a week away so generally I hand fill unless planning a long trip away. If you fill the tanks (in my case 400l) then you run the risk of the fuel going off over time.
