Folding Prop Size Recommendation ?

I'm past due replacing the fixed props on my Tobago 35 with folding (not feathering). The boat has 2GM20's with SD20's. Yes, the various prop manufacturers recommend sizes, but I'm interested to hear what size or sizes owners have used, and with what results. Thanks...

16X11 three blade folding Props on Volvo Penta D1-20 Saildrive Engines

Kia Ora,

Just to give you an Idea the FP Mahe 36 with 20 HP uses these folding Props
Volvo Penta D1-20 engines use 3 blade folding prop:
16" Dia. X 11" Pitch Left Hand (Counter Clockwise)

Volvo Penta # cast into Blades 3583374
Order Volvo Penta Propeller Blade Kit 3583386

Volvo Penta # cast into Hub 3584247
Order Volvo Penta Hub Saildrive Kit 3858955

Note: The Prop Hub is the same for D1-20 & D1-30 engines

Thanks for the information Mark.

Unfortunately, Yanmar calls out a 16" diameter fixed pitch prop for my engine/saildrive combo (the stock prop is a 16x11 LH), but specifies a 15" diameter for folding 2 or 3 blade props. I've received recommendations for either an 11", 12", or 13" pitch from two of the folding prop manufacturers.

You Mahe 36 guys have it so easy!

Re: Folding Prop Size Recommendation ?

We installed Flex-O-Fold props on our Tobago, after being told that Yanmar had input in the design. These props, twin blades, have resilient material where the blades open against the hub, such that they do not cause trouble to themselves or the engines when the props fly open.

We're quite happy with these props, during all activities. I'm sure this response is too late for you, and hope you found a product as good or better. Hopefully, it provides an option for other Forum visitors.
