I can get the engines up to 2800, haven't tried to go higher but there is more room on the throttle. Have you checked the throttle linkage on the engine? There are 2 stops for adjustment. Also, is the fuel filter in good shape? I have to change them every 175 hours or so, if you don't the engine(s) won't go to full throttle. Also, if you have that much growth on your prop are you cleaning out the intake holes on the sail drive as well? There are 3 of them and I use a metal coat hanger to clean them out, push all the way through to the other side, if they get clogged you will see a decrease in the water from the exhaust ports or no water at all (It looks like the impeller has failed, which also could be the case).

3000RPM is definitively what you want to get at full rev under load
What is the size of your props?

Hi all, on our boat Miss Poes we can get up to around 2500 - 2700 but definitely not up to 3000 rpm. We have the D1-20 engines with Volvo-Penta folding props, supplied by FP. The engines have 130 hours each. Props were clean.
So I guess the size of the props chosen by FP is not ideal
Normally we run at 2000 RPM. On 2 engines this does 5.5 knots, on 1 engine 4.5 - 5.0 knots (no waves, little wind). Why use double fuel is it's less than 20 % faster? Great for fuel economy.

Thanks, guys. I too have the D1-20s with folding props. The water seems OK. I am waiting for the Volvo manual from the dealer. Regarding service, I know things may not be the same in different countries, but do you have to pay for the first engine service after you take delivery of the boat?

Thanks Scott and Philippe, where is the lift pump. I will check the other stuff today. We are in South Eleuthera today, leaving for Cat Island in the morning. I will check back in a couple of days.

Hey Scott, soo happy you are on your way. Our trip has been a little more adventurous than I had hoped. I am so close to finding the hose that has the crack in it. I don't have any hose to replace it so that will have to wait until George Town. We had hoped to go to Cat Island but the wind and seas told us to head SW to the Exumas. Once in the Exumas I have found some kind of leak in the port engine room. I checked the bottom and everything looks good. We have had no ground contact. So this is my most recent hobby. We are in Little Famer's Cay tonight and will head to George Town tomorrow before the front moves through.

With both engines on full throttle, I am hooning along at 5.2kts max.

Motorsailed to Pittwater recently in company with a Seawind 1000. I fell so far behind he rang me to "hurry up". My excuse: fishing. No breeze at that time, so no help from the wind either. Damn, those 9.9hp Yammies can really push that boat along.

To add insult to injury, some mystery fish busted me off and took off with my favourite lure. This was near the spot where a 5m Great White knocked one kayaker into the water.

We have been to Pittwater a few times. I will PM you when I next visit Pittwater.

I feel good ever time I read about all the problems with Volvo, I opted for Yanmar. The worst Rpm I have ever gotten was 3100, out of a max of 3600. How are you doing with the blisters? For everybodies information Florida Yacht Brokers Group is now a Fountaine Pajot dealer. They have dist throughout the state, and can do warranty service.

I don't believe we are having alot of trouble with the Volvo engines, mine have been very reliable, the only time I couldn't get to 3000 rpm's was when my filters needed replacement. I have a great volvo mechanic right around the corner from my boat and no problems with spares. I do love the Yanmars but not for $5000 more than the Volvos.

Larry I have 700 h on our Volvos,not one problem except with this problem.They have been very reliable I shoul say.

I have these Diesel Engine fuel 1st stage water separators, but normally they have a filter in them also. The bowl is 3 inch in dia. and the whole unit is 4 inches tall.

Has anyone changed the filter?

What is the part # of the filter?

You do not change the filter, you clean them. The filter is reuseable, drop the bowl and you'll see the filter, clean in good fuel and put back in place. The bowl is plastic and you need to take care that you don't over tighten and at the same time you have a good seal at the top of bowl.
