Anyone wanting more information about the Saba 50

Hi Everyone. I have been following CF for quite a while now and no one has started a thread or posts any questions or information about the Saba 50. This post was also shared on the Multihull's Section of CF and I am now including it more specifically under the Fountaine Pajot category. Just to let folks know that we own one called "Lady Roslyn".Follow us on Facebook under the name Catamaran LadyRoslyn. We are sharing information about our journey - this amazing boat, what changes we make, what lessons we learn and what places are of interest along the way.

Re: Anyone wanting more information about the Saba 50

Hi.

We have just ordered a Saba 50 for delivery in La Rochelle in June 17. I am fairly OK with most things (I think). We have the optional bow sprit and am now looking to decide on sails for use (in addition to factory).

Any comments on your experience welcome. Am also considering a parasailor.

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Saba 50. You will not be disappointed with the decision. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. My direct mail is nic@wwh.co.za

If you are keen on buying a parasail spinnaker please read the blog post we wrote about the Wingaker which we will be buying this coming season. The owner of the company, Lothar Weber is an incredible sailor and really nice guy. He is amazingly knowledgeable about the setup and has been on board the Saba so knows how best to set it up. We have a Code 0 from the factory so have a winch on port stern area. If you are thinking of adding a parasail spinnaker like the Wingaker I would certainly recommend the you have the factory fit a winch to starboard stern area next to stern berth hatch. Much easier to manage the Wingaker and not have to have the starboard sheet running through two blocks back to helm area winches. We have bought an extra winch to fit but it's quite a job to remove the starboard stern berth headliner to fit the winch. Much better to just port and starboard stern winches factory fitted.

As an aside our family and friends all voted the ice maker in cockpit at saloon door area their favourite addition to the boat when sailing with us in June and July in Croatia.

Cheers for now.

Re: Anyone wanting more information about the Saba 50

Hi, I just took delivery of a new Saba 50 (Absinthe) a week ago. I have 2-3 months to make a number of modifications. Would it be possible to contact you directly to ask about a few things? I am finding it difficult to get good information online. Thanks. Michael

Hi CBro. We have just posted a very long blog post in our website www.ladyroslyn.com detailing most of the additions and changes made to our Saba 50, so please feel free to visit there to read what we posted for various other owners who currently have their Saba 50 in production.

My wife and I are considering ordering a Saba next year. For those of you that just ordered, how long was the lead time when the order was placed and delivery?

Were you able to negotiate the price down? If so, what percentage. It seems like the price list "options" are things that you have to get such as delivery to La Rochelle and masting.

Re: Anyone wanting more information about the Saba 50

I ordered my Saba in May 2016 and received the boat in late-Feb 2017, a bit ahead of schedule. This can really vary however, so I would check with your dealer.

I purchased mine through a dealer out of Asia (MultiHull Solutions) that I heard orders a lot of FP cats and so had some "pull" in terms of getting discounts. I received about a 6% discount which was given instead of free-shipping to Asia, which had been one of their promotions at the time.

So it depends on your particular dealer I think and also your timing. I believe that FP will be receiving a lot of new orders soon due to all the lost boats from the hurricanes and this could certainly affect timing and available discounts.

I believe "masting" of the boat is already included and not an option. I agree that launching of the boat really shouldn't be an "option" since you obviously have to take it. You will probably have to spend around 200K Euro on options for a well-equipped boat.

Thanks! What part of Asia and was it sailed or shipped?

I actually live in Thailand in the winter, but have decided to keep my boat in the Mediterranean (Barcelona) for the next few years. I may eventually move her out to Thailand.

Thanks again. So, it was shipped to the Mediterranean and not Thailand. Any issues with the boat or anything you wish you would have done differently?
