Antifoul

Hi all,
I'm getting lazy, does anyone know how many square meters of surface area to be covered by antifoul per hull....boat is a FP Helia 44...the yard wants to know how much antifoul to buy.
Also any comments on sea jet 039 which is used by FP would be great, the write ups all read well ( but who's doing the writing )
Cheers J

Re: Antifoul

Sorry for my slackness, I just thought there may have been a Helia owner that's recently antifouled and could say ie. there was 18 Squ m. As the yard does not stock the
gear we want, and have to order, I'm just trying to get them ahead of the game .

1. Formula surface ares of underwater hull

Surface area in m2 = Hull coefficient x length (at waterline) x (width + draught)

The hull coefficient, determined by the shape of the hull, is given in the table below.

Type of boat Hull coefficient
Underwater hull of motor boats
1
Sailing boats with planning hull
0.75
Sailing boats with keel
0.5
Type of boat
Hull coefficient Underwater hull of motor boats 1 Sailing boats with planning hull 0.75 Sailing boats with keel 0.5
2. Formula surface area freeboard (topside)

Surface area in m2 = 2 x length (overall) x width x height (waterline to deck)

3. Formula surface area decks

Surface ares im m2 = 0,75 x length (overall) x width - surface area cabin.

Do remember that rough or porous substrate require more paint. Also by using thinners, spreading rates can change too. Therefore above formulas are not absolute figures, but using them enables you to get a good result.

Re: Antifoul

I went to public school in America, and they told us we would have to learn the metric system way back in 1976. Well it didn't really happen like they said. So despite taking several years of algebra, geometry, calc and trig I'm not so good at that math thing anymore. What I can tell you is we have a fleet of boats painted every year that currently include four Helia's a Orana a Salina four Lipari's a Mahe and a Saba. For a boat that size I would plan on four to five gallons of paint, which is 15 to 19 liters of paint.
