Adequate cat for a couple to circumnavigate under 200k

Hello, I had never been aboard a FP cat until a few weeks ago. They are uncommon here in Brasil.

I am researching for a cat to cruise with my wife, probably to circumnavigate over a few years.

I had been looking for lagoons for some time as I had known them a long time and sailed them a few times in Brasil.

Some had commented on the forum that if lagoons are Toyotas, FPs would be Hyundais of catamarans, and many mention a delamination problem with some FP models. Other will mention FPs will age not as well as Lagoons - is it just stetic, or does it have to be with structure?

But I am willing to take a closer look at FPs and would like suggestions from FP owners regarding what would be adequate boat models to cruise and live aboard, I see FP has had many different models over the years, what makes a bit confuse to evaluate.

What should I be looking which would fit a 200k budget?

Thanks a lot and best regards!

Gus

You might want to look at an older Lagoon 37. Your budget will be a bit tight as you're basically looking at 38' or more in a newer model with those brands with not much left over for outfitting/ gear replacements.

Other problem is their are few sub 40' <200k cats truly designed for voyaging.

Lavezzi 40 fits your budget.

Leopard 38, Island Spirit 38, Privilige 37, 39, in cruising trim a Fp isnt going to be any faster than a lagoon leopard etc. Id up my game by maybe 20k and find a Manta 40.

Thanks Dulcesuenos, I appreciate your imputs. 200k is not a magic number but a guiding number and I am open to a broader range but trying to find something that could fit it.

I know I probably will need to make some investments to any boat I get, so one of the issues I had been facing is to buy a boat without much equipments (like a former charter) and equipping it or getting an owners boat and trusting older electronics as long as they last. But this seems to be a revolving issue on the forum.

38' FPs should be easy to find at a lot less than 200K. Remember, and I don't care if it's brand new boat or 30 years old, you'll need plenty extra to set it up the way you want.

Thanls Tellie, I have been looking at some Tobagos and Lavezzi, and found some interesting ones bellow 200k. I am aware of the refitting needed on any boat, so I am in fact looking for boats that have their hulls in good shape, other aspects are easier to beal with and are usually reflected in prices.

I would seriously consider a Mahe 36 as they are a newer design and were released in 2006 so you shouldn't need a major refit. Before you dismiss it as being too small consider the fact that the waterline length is 35', which is only slightly shorter than an Athena 38. Also, remember The Bumfuzzle's circumnavigated on a 35' Wildcat.

Not the fastest in the world.. like many cats she's a motor sailor upwind but with 2 x 10hp Bukhs run one at a time she's frugal.. and can do 7kts under motor at 2/3rds..
Delivered this particular one from E coast UK to E Spain and she did just fine.. though I must confess surfing at 18kts with 1/3rd genoa induced some pucker factor..

Catalacs seems to be more usual in UK. Haven't been looking around there, but I will check some sites there. Lots of unusual boats coming from the land of the Queen...

Thanks!
