Xinutop V2.4 ready for download

An updated version of Xinutop with OCPN V5 is alvailable on http://marinux.tuxfamily.org
Enjoy !

**************************
V2.4 april 19
**************************
- General update with OCPN V5.0.0
- Fix dnsmasq (DNS cache)
- Free size for tmpfs in RAM (as logs)
- Complete plugins alvailable for OCPN
- Some minor fixes and changes

***************************
FUTURE
***************************
As announced by Debian in https://lists.debian.org/debian-deve.../msg00589.html,
the compatibility with 586 processors class is dropped since Debian V9/Stretch.
More, after tests of this version:
- Final size take 25% more space.
- QT5 and GTK3 are huge and heavy.
- The 32 bits plateform is living it's lasts years and the 64 bits with the UEFI make the things complicate.
For people (as me) who refuse to put in trash a functional PC to buy a functional PC,
these elements preclude the compatibilty with low-power processors and are not in
accordance with the Xinutop principles.
So, Xinutop will not migrate to V9/Stretch and continue to be maintained on V8/Jessie
using backports, as long as possible.
To keep the KISS mind and as the ARM platform is mature, I will report my effort to bring a Xinutop version (lite and fast) for Raspberry and derivates. The first developpements are very likely.

Great!

I am very keen on the idea of having a system like this running on my ship. The idea of having a light-weight system with little to no extra burden is very attractive.

I however bought a vehicle computer which is fairly battery conservative with excellent performance. Trouble is that I can't utilize the hardware with Xinutop. 4 cores, 64 bit, 8 GB RAM.

Can this be solved? I am clue-less.

Did you look at OpenPlotter?
The actual version is running under several Linux distributions (if they are Debian based like Ubuntu or others) not just on a RasPi.

Check the alternatives for booting. I have used Xinutop on USB on several laptops, and when issues occur is has always been fixed by changing booting settings in the bios.

Thanks for the advice.
That took a while for me to figure out. But that’s not the issue now. When it boots up (I installed it on SSD) it runs 32 Bit, one core on 3 GB RAM, if I remember correctly. I would want it to use the full potential of my hardware.

Thanks @bcn!
Installed a basic Debian for os and then followed the openplotter instructions found on their web-page. Seems to be working great!
Quick start and full utilization of my hardware which was the goal of the exercise.

As you imply, I was under the impression that OP was just for PI. Now I know better.

Thanks again!

Does anyone knows if Frank (Marinux) is safe and sound ? Last activity on the forum was in mid-November. According to Boat Watch, he was last seen in December, but the search has been called off without apparently any luck: http://bit.ly/FBaudetBoatwatch
