I use wxtides since 1998, sailed from Far East to Italy and did not encounter a problem, I use wxtides now in the Philippines and have the tides from Navionics in a brand new cartridge, can not find any difference more than 3 cm. I better have tides with 5 or 10cm mistake than no tides. I can not even say who is wrong, wxtides or Navionics.

maybe one can help me: I miss the grid (coordinates) in the vector charts as they are usual on paper charts, is there a way to switch them on and I only did not find them yet?

Has there been any follow-up on this idea? I for one would love to import or install the Mapmedia Tidal Streams data I got already for MaxSea.

Hi OpenCPN users,

I would like to re-activate this thread.

Many users of the German community "complain" about the largely reduced tidal information in OpenCPN compared to the ones originally shipped with (W)XTide.

There are also some newer TCD files available - see: XTide Downloads

And Jean Pierre (and maybe others) has done some "update" on the HARMONIC files for adding more stations and correcting some data.

So here is my proposal:
Let's start to build
  1. a new HARMONIC file with worldwide coverage which is as much up-to-date as possible
  2. split this file, or extract subregions from this file e.g. America, Europe, Asia etc.
And an additional question to the programmers out there:
How to convert a HARMONIC.tcd file to the needed text file format for OpenCPN?

And there seems to be some kind of tool "tcd-utils" being available on the website - see: XTide Downloads

Let me know what you think about it.

Thanks

Gunther

I've done some works to update west-Europe files .
The problem is data for Europe are not freely available (That's have been discussed on this forum)
they are not perfect but for many stations I've checked , not so bad
Off course these files are at you disposal
regrads
Jean Pierre
