WIN10 64bit won't run the 4.8.8 setup executable

Hi, I'm having problems trying to install Opencpn v4.8.8 from the site's download page.

I'm using W10 64bit OS to run opencpn_4.8.8_setup.exe. I just get a message saying "This app can't run on your PC, please contact the software publisher" (which is no use to anyone, really). I've tried running it as Administrator, but to no effect.


Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix?



I am running v4.6.6 happily with charts from VisitmyHarbour, but thought it was time I upgraded to more recent software to see what improvements had been made.

Strange as there are for sure several 10.000s or even 100.000 thousand systems running 4.8.8 under W10.

We have seen quite some..

There is a "Troubleshooter" at Windows you can try.
Or right-click the OpenCPN install .exe and observe the different options for install you get.

Unless you don't refer to the protection for "unsupported" software. If so there's a nearly hidden box left down: "Install anyhow" or some similar text?

I'd try temporarily disabling any anti virus or malware software and if that fails or is not applicable, try downloading the setup program again. It might just be a corrupt image.

I have tried downloading several times, I get the same issue. I've tried my W10 32bit netbook and get the problem there too. Version 4.4 (included with the charts from Visitmyharbour) runs fine on both machines. What is wrong with the seup.exe for the later versions downloaded from the Opencpn site?


I 'm not keen to try installing without the AV programme running.
Will try Microsoft support, but not hopeful,

I just did an install of 4.8.8 on a Win10-32 tablet (1.44 Atom 2GB) this weekend without any issues.

I copied the downloaded executables off my laptop and moved them to the tablet via USB stick. I also brought over the install for Shipdriver, the latest GRIB, and all of my charts. This was also done as an effort to avoid the pitfalls of no antivirus on the tablet (yet) going out to the interweb.

I still keep sailing into shore regardless which system I run the simulation on...

My experiences:
In Win10 there is no need at all to us external antivirus programs. Use the inbound Windows defender. Good enough. Cost nothing. Accept OpenCPN.
