win 8 and open cpn

Have just purchased new computer with win 8 and want to install open cpn 3.0.2. Has anyone had any problems? I am not very computer savvy so need assistance and non technical too advice please.

no problems whatsoever. love it and you'll be surprised at the easy use. just make sure your usb is compatible with win 8 first. my old Garmin USB18 still works!

Thanks for info. Now I am showing my lack of knowledge. What do you mean by USB comment? I have copied the version 3.0.2 onto a usb to transfer program. Is this what you mean?

I expect he was referring to your USB GPS puck. I believe some of them have compatibility problems with W8. Mine worked fine.

Yes, the gps puck. but the've also gotten much better and smaller since my Garmin had issues with XP
I just bought one on e-bay GPS Receiver Laptop OS Win XP Win7 Mac Linux Android GE | eBay
And the thing is tiny! supports linyx, android and all flavors of windows. also available with a 5 meter antenna cable. one small drill bit a tablespoon of 5200 and a $150 tablet becomes a 10 inch chart plotter for aft cabin

Sounds great. Ok, have installed open cpn and all ok but then tried to also install the GE@KAP program but to no avail. Someone suggested that because I have a 64 bit computer then the oorexx file is the wrong one. I was given the ooRexx.4.1.0-windows_x86_32. I want to be able to use the google earth chart converter. Do you have any ideas for this? Anyone help?

From the GE2KAP Help is the following:

oorexx interpreter

• GE2KAP is written in REXX. You must install the oorexx interpreter. The lastest version of oorexx can be dowloaded from: ooRexx
  Install Windows ooRexx-4.1.1-windows-x86_32.exe
  Take all the defaults when installing it.
  Note: ONLY install the 32Bit version even if you are running on a 64Bit system.

Your problem isn't the ooorexx ... might be something else? Try the newer version of oorexx. Unfortunately Paul Higins is off sailing (and a lot of us are jealous)!
