What is the easiest radar to interface with openCPN?

Have mast off at the moment and about to purchase a new radome etc

From experience please can anyone recommend the easiest radar manufacturers / systems for my future PC tinkering..
Cheers

Re: What is the easiest radar to interface with openCPN?

Bob...

The Garmin GMR-HD series are well supported by OpenCPN. The downside is that you must use OCPN if you do not want to buy an MFD otherwise. That is, the Garmin GMR series does not have a standalone display other than their full function MFD. This means more $$$.

The Garmin is a good tinker candidate. Datastreams are easy to catch and decode.

Good Luck
Dave

Thanks bobcat
The plan at this stage is a GMR24 and probably a gpsmap 751xs or similiar (if it has 2 network ports)
And initially slave the PC to it if that sounds doable
