What Are the Objects that Display . . .

Hello,

I participate in the French group who wrote and put online the tutorial of the French version. Here : OpenCPN

I seek to know the lists of the different objects which display themselves when one chooses "Base", or "Standard" or "Other" in Toolbox/vectorcharts".

I mailed already about this but nobody answered. Then I open a dedicated thread. Thanks at the team of well want to bring their light on this subject.

It will allow us to improve the tutorial.

Best regards

Gilletarom.

Gilletarom,

I understand your question - unfortunately I cannot provide you with the desired information, but ...

maybe this site (IHO S-57 / ENC - Object and Attribute Catalogue) will help you to identify the objects if you have to figure them out by manually testing.

Gilletarom....

Here is one way:

1.Look at the file S52RAZDS.RLE

Here is a representative entry for one Feature Type... This one is BOYLAT

Code:
0001
LUPT 34LU00802NILBOYLATP00008OSIMPLIFIED
ATTC 16BOYSHP1COLOUR4
INST 60SY(BOYLAT13);TE('%s','OBJNAM',2,1,2,'15110',-1,-1,CHBLK,21)
DISC 9STANDARD
LUCM 617010
****
The line "DISC...." tell which category this feature is to be displayed on.
STANDARD in this case.

I do not know where a tabular list of these Features may be found....

Good Luck
Dave

First, thanks to have taken my question counts some.

Furthermore, I am whom same you Dave, do not know for you astonished where to find a list of the objects which are displayed in each of the 3 cases.

Does that mean that the part of software OpenCPN, who carries out these displays selectively, comes of an exterior sofware ?

Best regards,

Gilletarom

No, it just means Dave obviously doesn't have enough time to make the list for you
If you want to have a look at the rasterization rules in a more visual way, use my editor which can be found at OpenCPN - Rasterization Rules Editor - Redmine

Visibility of the different objects is defined by S52 (not S57) and implemented through the display category in the presentation library. This is published by the IHO. The current version is 3.4 in file pslb03_4.dai.

Sadly I am not familiar enough with OpenCPN to answer this question. My company has a commercial relationship with the IHO, which along with other updates, means that we get supplied with the latest presentation library files. I am sure that OpenCPN must use this somehow.
A typical dai file record looks like this ...
0001 500040
LUPT 40LU00040NILCTSAREA00003SPLAIN_BOUNDARIES
ATTC 1
INST 30SY(INFARE51);LS(DASH,1,CHMGF)
DISC 9STANDARD
LUCM 626250
**** 0
The DISC field contains STANDARD, DISPLAYBASE or OTHER
The LUCM field contains the viewing group

Hi,

don't know if it helps, but anyway here are 5 text files containing the objects for each display group from the S52RAZDS.RLE

  1. OTHER (6) - http://opencpn.de/sites/default/file...iles/other.txt
  2. STANDARD (9) - http://opencpn.de/sites/default/file...s/standard.txt
  3. DISPLAYBASE (12) - http://opencpn.de/sites/default/file...splay_base.txt
  4. MARINERS OTHER (15) - http://opencpn.de/sites/default/file...iner_other.txt
  5. MARINERS STANDARD (18) - http://opencpn.de/sites/default/file...r_standard.txt
Have fun ...

Good feature request Easy to implement, but my mother in law is coming for a visit in two hours, so don't expect it before the weekend

The .dai file is part of the non-public, commercially distributed part of the presentation library which we do not have access to, but the same data (more or less) are part of the S52RAZDS.RLE file. Of course there are differences as at least the new ones are created by me by hand without having the dai...

Yikes!
Isn’t that a bit dangerous?
Without a correct and up to date presentation library the displayed symbols will not be correct or up to date. Not good if someone wants to trust what they see on the chart. I am not really an expert in this area but I know some of the conditional display procedures are quite sophisticated – you’d be unlikely to get them right by guessing and any kind of reverse engineering might well be a copyright infringement.

The written documentation is freely available so the rules are created according to it. Of course there can be and sometimes are errors - that's why you guys are testing the betas... Nobody pretends OpenCPN is a certified Ecdis system, it simply isn't. Anyway - it's your choice what you trust for navigation. If it's just the electronic navigation system, then good luck to you. I don't
